What's New for Desert
2005 Season to Include Safari Devoted to Star-Gazing in Moab
SALT LAKE CITY (Spring 2005) – Western River Expeditions, the home of outdoor adventure for over 44 years, will expand its off-road Hummer tours for the 2005 season, offering more tour and trail options than any other outfitter, including the Slickrock Safari, Grand Safari, Sunset Safari and the new Star Safari.
“Our custom Hummers are built to provide the most comfortable ride on the most extreme terrain,” says Brandon Lake, vice president of marketing for Western River Expeditions. “The Hummers allow us to take guests beyond the asphalt and hotel room to see the natural beauty of Moab’s spectacular backcountry.”
As the first nighttime Hummer tour of its kind, the Star Safari puts the desert stars at center stage. At dusk, guests ride through the red rock terrain as the sun begins to brush colors on the land and the horizon. As the sky darkens, Western’s guides share their astronomy knowledge in describing the vast canopy of stars through the use of high-powered telescopes.
Western’s professional guides operate modified Hummer vehicles
with raised seating in the rear for optimal passenger viewing.
Safaris can be customized for each adventurer depending on whether
they want to experience a relaxing ride or intense off-roading.
Hummer Safaris are also offered as part of many rafting packages.
Western River’s Hummer Safaris run year-round, with departures
from the Moab Adventure Center beginning at 7:30 am and going
until the late evening. Prices range from the two-hour Slickrock
Safari at $69 for adults and $45 for youth to $109 for the Grand
Safari, and this year, one youth can ride free with a family of
four on select departures.
