FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Leading Outfitter to help take Advantage of Bigger Whitewater
Rapids with SALT LAKE CITY (April 28, 2005) – Western River Expeditions, the home of outdoor adventure for over 44 years, is finalizing preparations for what is expected to be the best whitewater rafting conditions since the early 1990s. Higher-than-normal Rocky Mountain snow pack will make for bigger rapids, a longer runoff period and increased recreational opportunities both on and off the river. Western River Expeditions has worked through the winter and early spring to tune-up its boats and equipment for high water as well as to provide additional staff training. “We make it an annual practice to train our guides to make sure they are prepared for all conditions,” said Brian Merrill, CEO of Western River Expeditions. “This year there has been an extra emphasis on high water to ensure river runners enjoy the most safe and adventurous whitewater rafting experience possible.” Western River Expeditions, one of the nation’s oldest whitewater rafting outfitters, has guided tours down many of the nation’s premiere whitewater rivers in Utah, Grand Canyon (AZ) and Idaho. For the 2005 season, Western River Expeditions offers a full slate of trips including one to four days on Cataract Canyon, a 100-mile-long chasm of 28 rapids through the heart of Canyonlands National Park; a 4-day trip on the Green River through Desolation Canyon and 60 fun-filled rapids; or a 3-day Westwater Multi-Sport trip, combining the big whitewater rafting rapids of Westwater Canyon on the Colorado River, a horseback ride through the red rocks of Castle Valley, Utah and a Hummer tour over Moab’s famous slickrock in southern Utah. “This will be the season for anyone interested in experiencing whitewater rafting,” said Merrill. “Both the Colorado and Green rivers are going to be running much higher and longer than in the past, not only offering bigger rapids but a longer season.” Fully-equipped, multiple-day whitewater rafting expeditions range from $450 - $1,995. Rafting day trips cost $53 for adults, $41 for children under 17 and seniors over 60. River trips are available for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 days. Group rates are available on select trips.
