Grand Canyon Rafting Vacations

Unexpected Comforts and New Trip Options

Steaming French pressed coffee provides welcome warmth to counter the cool sand between your toes. In your beach chair you watch the line of sun angle down the canyon walls, turning the cliffs shades of bronze and magenta. This is how the morning starts on a Western River Expedition.

The unexpected continues throughout the day on every Western rafting trip as guests experience the splendor of the West’s might river corridors.

“New French Press coffee makers and comfortable camp chairs are added to all trips for the 2003 season,” says Western River Expeditions’ Brandon Lake. “There is no reason you have to drink gritty sheepherder coffee or sit on a rock, just because you’re miles from civilization!” he said.

“That’s our Western River Expeditions attitude. We have always been a trend setter, the first to serve fresh gourmet camp meals instead of canned food, and first to introduce deluxe tents and comfortable cots on all river rafting vacations some years ago,” Lake said.

Combination River Trip and Dude Ranch

Also new this year are three combination ranch/river holiday options. Western River Expeditions has selected three outstanding Utah guest ranches to create a true wild west experience...filled with comfort and outstanding cuisine.

Green River and Red Cliffs Ranch – This is the perfect family vacation with two days of horseback riding, Hummer Safari, and relaxation before four days on the spectacular Green River.

Westwater Canyon MultiSport – A breathtaking ranch on the edge of the Colorado River near Moab is home to a deluxe lodge known for its wonderful food and dramatic setting. It is the perfect ending to a Westwater Canyon river trip which takes you through one of the best stretches on the Colorado.

Cataract Canyon and Sorrel River Ranch – Horseback ride in the shadows of the breathtaking La Sal Mountains or relax around the pool at the picturesque Sorrel River Ranch before an exciting river trip through Cataract Canyon. A sunset tour of Arches National Park, off-road Hummer Safari, and La Sal Mountain Tour sets the stage for a most memorable vacation.

Special River Trips for Women and Singles

In addition to arranging personalized group trips for family reunions, travel clubs and groups of friends, as well as corporate retreats and business incentive packages, Western has introduced two great expeditions for women and solo travelers.

Two Women’s Adventure trips on the Green River, guided by experienced women guides, are scheduled for May 29 and July 13. The 4-day trip covering 84 miles through Desolation and Gray Canyons, offers all the excitement of a rafting vacation coupled with a menu of fresh, health foods, an experienced Yoga instructor and optional massage by a licensed therapist.

There is no single supplement cost on any Western River Expedition, but the Singles Retreat, a 4-day trip on Cataract Canyon of the Colorado River, is exclusively designed for solo travelers who want to join with other individual guests on a wonderful outdoors experience. The trip departs May 27 from Moab, Utah.

“All of Western’s trips include first class amenities, like delicious fresh meals, top-quality rafts and equipment, and professional guides – all included in the price of the trip,” says Lake. He says trip leaders and guides take pride in assisting guests, “Our expert staff caters to individual needs to deliver the perfect rafting vacation.”

Guest Comments » The Best Rafting Vacations in the West!

I enjoyed the breathtaking scenery and the pristine surroundings. I think Desolation Canyon is misnamed - it’s beautiful - but perhaps that name is good to keep too many people from "discovering" it. From the wonderful, eye-popping flight over the canyons, the wildlife sightings, the light on the canyon walls (especially early morning and late in the day), to the lovely campsites - it was hard to absorb so much natural beauty. The surroundings helped me to unsnarl my thoughts, relax into serenity, and remember what’s important in life. Susan - Washington DC
