Westwater 1 Day Trip Itinerary

After boarding the Western River shuttle, you will take a scenic drive through the unique landscapes for which Moab and Southern Utah are most famous.

After the ride, you will launch onto a calm stretch of the Colorado River, perfect for swimming and relaxing. Eventually, you’ll notice the canyon begins to narrow and get much deeper. You’re about to enter the whitewater section of the Westwater Canyon. You’ll stop for a delicious riverside buffet lunch just above Little Dolores Rapid. After lunch, you’ll have a whitewater orientation including how and where to sit on the rafts and how to stay safe in the rapids. Then get ready to hold on! Funnel Falls, Skull Rapid, Sock-it-to-Me and a host of other exhilarating Colorado River rapids provide fun and excitement through the rest of the canyon.

After your last rapid, the canyon widens again and the river calms giving you one last chance to kick back and soak in the astounding beauty of America’s most incredible river. You’ll bid farewell to your guides and enjoy a scenic ride back to the Moab Adventure Center.

How to Get to Moab
If you’re flying, the following options are generally the most common:

  • Fly directly to Moab, Utah (CNY) and
    get a shuttle into town or rent a Jeep
  • Fly to Grand Junction, Colorado (GJT)
    and rent a car (1.5 hour drive)
  • Fly to Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC) and
    rent a car (4 hour drive)

Where and When to Meet
Meet at 7:30 AM at Western River Expeditions’ Moab Adventure Center, located in the center of town at 225 S Main Street, Moab, Utah 84532 (phone: 435-259-7019). Dress ready for the river with your swimsuit, suncreen, comfortable water shoes and any other personal items you will need for the day.

Where to Stay
Depending on your travel schedule, you’ll most likely need to arrive the night prior to the start of your trip. There are plenty of hotel choices in town as well as condominiums and guest homes. Some of the closest hotels include Gonzo Inn, Big Horn Lodge and Best Western Canyonlands.

Post-Trip Travel Information

You’ll finish your rafting trips and return back to the Moab Adventure Center around 6:00 PM. Many guests like to extend this itinerary with additional nights at local lodgings and additional activities such as canyoneering, Hummer Tours or mountain biking. We’ll be happy to help accommodate any extension requests.
