The Best Family Adventure Vacations are on the River!

Nothing creates bonds and deepens friendships like family adventure vacations and Western’s family rafting trips provide the perfect escape. Discovering river history and folklore, as well as the excitement of whitewater rafting, will provide both fun and learning for the whole family.

Those of us at Western who are parents and grandparents understand the importance of creating memorable active family adventure vacations for children and adults who want to share the most unforgettable, fun-filled adventure possible.

The Perfect Family Trip

A mom describes her experience with younger children on a family vacation in Desolation Canyon on the Green River. A river trip provides the perfect environment for family togetherness, more so than other family vacations. This experience bonds you together. You grow together. Sharing genuine fun, laughter and exploring magical places creates precious, lasting memories.

Mandatory Family Fun

Grandchildren, adult children and the mom who organized it all tell their tale of the ultimate family vacation in Grand Canyon. A 71-year old mom planned a vacation for her 2 children, their spouses and children. Carrying on their tradition of “Mandatory Family Fun,” they discover that rafting the Grand Canyon provides a magnificent setting for the whole family to enjoy doing the same thing together at the same time.

Awesome Family Vacation

The best thing I’ve ever done! The guides were great and we met so many nice people, in three days we were a family. I want my son to do it with his two boys. This is an awesome family vacation!

Favorite Family Trip of All Time!

five

This trip was one of our favorite family trips of all time! We bonded as a family because we were all together in the outdoors, unplugged completely from the world. We were in a better position to have quality time and conversations together and the fact that I didn’t have to do the meal prep, but instead could spend more time with my husband and kids, made such a dramatic difference.

The guides made the trip an amazing experience for all of us. They were extremely hard-working and great with our kids - especially our teenagers (anyone who can do that deserves a medal!). They were fun and engaging in conversations, genuinely interested in our lives and our happiness on the trip, and conscientious about all of the details big or small. The were excellent cooks and experienced and knowledgeable about the river, the hikes and the places we stayed and explored. I would and plan to recommend this trip to everyone I know!

Green River 5 Day Desolation Canyon Adventure

This is one of the few trips anywhere that is as much fun for the 5 year old, the teenager, the parents, and the grandparents. The river and rapids on the Green River through Desolation Canyon are more fun than furious, and you can challenge them on inflatable kayaks, or guide powered oar boats. The scenery never stops, but the rafts do with easy hikes to uncommon places like the Moonshiner’s Cabin, vista overlooks, or abandoned ranches left in the rough and remote wilderness. Camp, dine, play children’s games in the sand, or relax on your cot while the guides provide various activities in camp each night. This one really is one of the best “all-in-the-family” vacation destinations.

Moab, Utah Vacation Sampler

Several things make this a great vacation package for families, perhaps especially for those with younger children. When you check in at the Gonzo Inn, where you’ll be staying for the first two nights, you will notice that the pool will become a fun focal point during your stay. The activities packed into this Sampler trip are perfect for getting familiar with what the Moab area has to offer. But they are also paced in such a way as to avoid feeling pushed. Top off the last two days with a trip down the Colorado River through Castle Valley where you will savor one epic sunset (practically guaranteed to be spectacular). Your guides will prepare your meals, guide you through easy and fun rapids, and tell you all about the rocks, birds, and history of the area.

Grand Canyon 4 Day Rafting & Ranch Tour

Good ol’ cowboy charm is alive and well at the Bar 10 Ranch on the remote northern rim of the Grand Canyon. Delight in a day of ranch activities like skeet shooting, roping, horseback or ATV rides, enjoy meals prepared in the style of the west, and before bed in your covered wagon or cabin, enjoy the cowboy entertainment with your hosts. In the morning, ride a helicopter over the edge of the canyon rim and plunge into 3 days of river rafting on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. This trip is not only something really “grand” for the kids to brag about back home, but the kind of memories made on a trip like this can pay-off for years to come.

Select departures of the Lower Salmon are set apart exclusively for families… That’s dedication to the “Family Magic” that happens on rafting trips! The rapids of the Lower Salmon River are exciting, a little challenging, and full of surprising splash - just like kids! Experience these rapids in an inflatable kayak, or from the guide-powered oar boat. A simple evening menu, designed especially for kids is available an hour before the more extravagant meal for the adults. A “River Jester,” trained in the ways of youth, is part of each river trip so you can let the kids go play while you talk among the adults or relax with a book. Take time with your teens, let the little ones laugh out loud, and pride yourself as parent of the year as you make memories with them to last a lifetime.
