Western River Expeditions, Inc. (“Western River Expeditions,” “Western,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy applies to information we collect through westernriver.com and other websites or online services we operate, through our reservation and guest-management systems, and when you interact with us by phone, email, text message, mail, in person, or in connection with a trip or other service.


Because rafting trips take place in remote environments and involve transportation, meals, outdoor activities, and other logistics, we sometimes need more information about participants than a typical travel company. This can include dietary restrictions, allergies, relevant medical conditions, physical considerations, or other information needed to prepare for and operate a trip. We use this information to help provide an appropriate and well-prepared experience for our guests.

The information we collect depends on how you interact with us and the trip or service you choose.


Contact and Reservation Information

When you request information, make a reservation, travel with us, or contact our team, we may collect information such as:

  • Reservation and trip history
  • Names and information about other participants included in a reservation
  • Communications you have with our staff


If you provide information about another person, such as a family member or other participant on your reservation, we ask that you provide information you are authorized to provide.


Trip and Participant Information

To prepare for and operate a trip, we may ask for information such as:

  • Medical conditions or physical considerations that may be relevant in a remote environment

  • Raft or activity preferences where a trip provides choices
  • Other preferences or information that may help our guides and staff provide a better guest experience


Some of this information may be considered sensitive personal information or consumer health data under applicable law. We use health-related information for trip preparation, guest service, operational, and emergency purposes.   We do not use medical conditions, allergies, dietary information, or other health-related information for advertising or marketing profiling.

Payment and Transaction Information

When you make a payment, payment information is processed through our reservation system and payment service providers. We maintain records concerning your transaction, including amounts paid, payment status, refunds, and other information needed to manage your reservation and maintain financial and accounting records.

Payment card information is handled through systems designed for payment processing. We do not use payment information for advertising purposes.


Waivers and Required Trip Forms

Depending on your trip, we may collect signed waivers, acknowledgments of risk, participant forms, and related records. Some forms are processed through third-party services such as WaiverSign or through our reservation platform.


These records may include identifying information, participant information, signatures, dates, and information necessary to document participation in the trip.


Information You Provide When Contacting Us

If you call, email, text, submit a form, request an expedition guide, ask a question, provide feedback, or otherwise communicate with us, we may retain the information you provide and our communications with you.


Marketing Preferences

If you request information from Western River Expeditions, make a reservation, or choose to receive promotional communications, we may maintain information about your communication preferences and interactions with our emails or other messages.


You can unsubscribe from promotional email at any time using the unsubscribe link included in the message. Opting out of promotional messages will not prevent us from sending information related to an existing reservation, payment, trip preparation, or other transaction.

To Make and Manage Reservations

We use information to check availability, create and maintain reservations, process payments, send confirmations, manage changes or cancellations, and maintain reservation history.


To Prepare for and Operate Trips

We use participant information to prepare for trips and provide requested services. This may include:

  • Preparing meals and addressing dietary requirements
  • Alerting appropriate staff or guides to relevant allergies or medical considerations
  • Planning transportation and lodging
  • Assigning or preparing equipment
  • Understanding participant ages and physical considerations

  • Communicating information that guides or trip operators reasonably need to serve participants


Because many of our trips take place in remote wilderness environments, information that might be relatively unimportant on another type of vacation can be important for us to know before a trip begins.

We use information to answer questions and communicate about reservations, payments, trip preparation, packing, transportation, schedules, required forms, changes, post-trip matters, and other customer-service needs.


To Make Future Trips Easier

Many Western River guests travel with us more than once, sometimes years apart. We generally maintain customer profiles, reservation history, and prior communications so our team can recognize returning guests, understand their previous trips, and make future reservations easier.


To Improve Our Services

We may use information and feedback to improve our website, reservation process, guest communications, trips, products, service, training, and business operations.


For Marketing

We may use contact information and information about your relationship with Western River Expeditions to send marketing communications about our trips and services, subject to your communication preferences and applicable law.


We may also use website activity and advertising technology to measure advertising and, where permitted, show advertising to people who have previously visited our website.


We do   not  use medical conditions, allergies, dietary information, or other trip health information for advertising or marketing profiling.

We do not sell customer lists or personal information to third parties for money.

We do disclose information when reasonably necessary to operate our business, provide a trip or service, or for the other purposes described below.


Reservation and Technology Providers

Western River Expeditions uses Resmark for reservation and guest-management services. We also use other providers for services such as payment processing, electronic waivers, hosting, communications, security, data storage, website operation, analytics, and other business functions. These providers may process information on our behalf in order to provide their services.


Guides, Trip Operators, and Suppliers

Some trips and components of trips are operated or provided in cooperation with other companies. We may provide information that is reasonably necessary to guides, outfitters, transportation providers, air carriers, lodging providers, ranches, activity providers, food-service personnel, or other suppliers involved in delivering the service you reserved.


For example, an operating team may need participant names, ages, dietary restrictions, allergies, relevant medical information, or other trip information in order to properly prepare for a group.


We limit health-related information to those who reasonably need it for trip preparation, guest care, or emergency purposes.


Affiliated Businesses

Western River Expeditions and Moab Adventure Center are affiliated businesses. We may share information between affiliated businesses when necessary to respond to an inquiry, fulfill a reservation, provide requested services, maintain customer records, or support our business operations.


Analytics and Advertising Providers

We use analytics and advertising technologies to understand website activity and evaluate or promote our services. These providers may receive or collect information such as cookie identifiers, advertising identifiers, IP addresses, device information, and website browsing activity.

Western River Expeditions has many repeat guests, and guests sometimes return years after their first trip. For that reason, we generally retain customer profiles, reservation history, and relevant customer-service records for an extended period so we can provide continuity and make future reservations easier.

Our website and reservation services are intended primarily for adults making travel arrangements. Many Western River Expeditions trips are designed for families and include minor participants. A parent, legal guardian, or other authorized adult may therefore provide information about a minor when making or managing a reservation.


We do not knowingly solicit personal information online directly from children under 13 without appropriate parental or guardian involvement.

Western River Expeditions does   not sell personal information for money.
