Colorado River
I did the 3 night/4-day Colorado River rafting trip that included the Bar 10 Ranch overnight. Wonderful ranch service and a wholesome family experience. It was fun to sleep in a real covered wagon! There were good hearty meals, nice showers, with many fun activities and entertainment by the staff.
In the canyon, there isn't any cell or internet service but if necessary, can use a satellite phone in case of an emergency. To be commended! Our Western River guides Johnnie and Jase did all they could to fulfill our requests and answer questions. Sometimes difficult to hear educational talks due to engine or water noise. Food is good quality, not RitzCarlton level, but better than Applebee's and all hand cooked and baked. There was a large emphasis on cleanliness and hand-washing for everyone's safety. The guides were nice enough to make me coffee in the evening even though that is not part of their usual routine. The cots we used to sleep on were a bit bulky to assemble and shaky to sleep on, perhaps Western River Expeditions could look at Thermarest-style sleep pads instead.
Beautiful Colorado River and Grand Canyon views with some small hike opportunities since it was a shorter trip. Lovely to listen to the silence at night in camp. The guides made our time on the river so enjoyable. Remember the water is a COLD 52 degrees so be prepared for the "invigorating" sprays from the rapids.
Great transportation to and from the start and finish points. Talented and safe plane and helicopter pilots.
It was a trip I have wanted to do for more that 40 years since college. It's certainly a life-rewarding experience and Western River Expeditions did a wonderful job to make it so!
