Being Fully Immersed In Nature Never Felt So Good! A Colorado River Adventure
Six long-time friends decided that rafting down the Colorado River was something we had to do. This decision was a good one! The remoteness of the Grand Canyon was evident as we road from our hotel in a van, boarded a small plane, took another van to the Bar 10 Ranch and then boarded a helicopter to be lowered into the beauty of the Grand Canyon. It was an exciting adventure just getting there. I couldn't think of a more dramatic contrast between the bright lights of Las Vegas and the peacefulness of the Grand Canyon. After getting settled onto our J-rigs and receiving some safety instructions we were off for some hair-raising rapids. The beauty of the J-rig raft is that those that wanted an up & close encounter with the Colorado River could ride in front, while those more conservative hung on above or in back. The rapids were much more exciting than those I road in Valdez, Alaska. Each day we stopped for interesting hikes to see waterfalls, hear nature talks and stretch our legs. The food preparation was wonderful - we were never left hungry! As night fell it was difficult to close our eyes because you hated to miss anything. There were literally no bugs and we slept under the stars. Amazing! The Western River Expeditions team was expert in every aspect of adventure. They worked so hard to ensure us an opportunity to experience an American gem. Just as photos can never do the Grand Canyon justice, it is difficult to find words enough to describe this amazing adventure. Thanks Western River Expeditions!
