Would Go Again….
This trip was our bucket list trip.
We decided on the shorter 3 day Grand Canyon for our first rafting trip, we have a family of 5. Our kids are 11, 14,and 15 years old.
The whole experience was very well organized, down to every last detail. Our kids loved the helicopter ride into the canyon, and the rapids. We all wished there were more rapids. It felt like this was a bit too slow for our liking. The guides were extremely knowledgable and friendly. Clearly making an effort to learn everyone's name and such. They knew tons of facts about the canyon and its history. These guys worked their tails off. They are not just river guides. They cook, clean, they take care of EVERYTHING.
It was mentioned that June is the best time to go, we went the very first week of August which is apparently monsoon season, and we had the pleasure of experiencing a thunderstorm during the night. The guides were exceptional at helping everyone who needed it and checking on us all. I can tell you it was terrifying if you've never been through something like that. It was also hot as hell. It was nearly impossible to sleep with it being so hot.
There was always enough food for all of us, always extra to go around. They make accommodations for allergies if you tell them IN ADVANCE... Don't call the day before saying you have a peanut allergy. It will be too late. There was always water and lemonade available. Even in the boats.
We were sorry we did not bring any wine or liquor for the evenings. Some people brought beer, wine, Diet Coke, and liquor. We were quite envious :). They have coolers to keep your drinks cold.
All that being said. We would do it again, a longer trip with more rapids though. The 2 hour rafting ride to meet the power boats on the last day were torture. It just seemed to take forever. So it says 3 days rafting, there was really only 1 day of Rapids. The rest is slow river.
The views were beautiful. The experience with our kids priceless.
