GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA
Grand Canyon 4-Day Rafting & Ranch Trip
★★★★★ 4.9 OUT OF 2841 REVIEWS
6,000,000 people a year go to the rim and stare over the edge, but only a fraction of that get to come down the river and find the little hidden gems that you would never see from the top. It honestly feels magical. We have seen the Grand Canyon from the rim before, but this was a totally different experience because we were down in it. It was the wild wild west. We spent the night at this tiny Bar 10 Ranch. We slept in covered wagons and we flew down into the canyon and as soon as we went over the rim it was just like it opened up. You feel like you're floating through a postcard. It was just beautiful. It's a great opportunity for people who can't take time off from work but still wanna have this epic Grand Canyon white water adventure. I think it's probably our favorite trip that we've ever been on. Being able to just be away from your phone for a couple of days, just unplug, no worries, out here in the Grand Canyon in the wilderness. To get down here and really see kind of the scale and the beauty and the rawness of a place, it's really hard to convey until you're physically here. I think it's something that once you've experienced, you don't really ever forget it.
Experience the Grand Canyon from the Colorado River without committing to a full week. In four days, combine a night at Bar 10 Ranch with a helicopter descent into the canyon, 92 miles of rafting, and two nights camping beside the river, with easy departures from Las Vegas.

Four Days and Three Ways to Experience Grand Canyon
This trip begins above the canyon at Bar 10 Ranch, where you spend your first afternoon and night enjoying ranch activities and getting to know the people you'll travel with. The next morning, a helicopter carries you from the rim down to the Colorado River, where an entirely different Grand Canyon experience begins.
For the next three days, the canyon is no longer something you're looking into from above. You're traveling through it by river, running whitewater, exploring along the way, eating meals beside the Colorado, and sleeping beneath canyon walls that rise thousands of feet overhead.
That's what makes the 4-Day trip so distinctive. In a relatively short vacation, you experience the Grand Canyon from the rim, from the air, and from the river, while Western River coordinates the ranch stay, flights, rafting, camping, meals, and transportation from Las Vegas and back.
CANYON ACCESS
From Whitmore Wash to Pearce Ferry, explore the lower Grand Canyon's side drainages and geological formations few ever see from water level.
RIVERSIDE COMFORT
Quality cots, sleeping bags, and guide-prepared dinners served where canyon walls meet the river on two nights under the stars.
Grand Canyon 4-Day Itinerary
Over four days, you’ll experience the Grand Canyon from rim to river, beginning with a day and night at a remote working ranch before traveling 92 miles from Whitmore Helipad to Pearce Ferry, Lake Mead. A helicopter flight into the canyon marks the transition to three days of rafting, with more than a dozen rapids, guided hikes, and quieter stretches that let you take in the beauty around every bend.
The experience feels adventurous yet remarkably well organized: a North Rim ranch stay, helicopter canyon entry, expertly guided whitewater, freshly prepared meals, and comfortable riverside camps beneath a sky full of stars. Your trip concludes with a jet boat ride on Lake Mead to the bus that returns you to Las Vegas. Each departure unfolds a little differently, but the itinerary below offers a general sense of how your four days may flow.
DAY 1
Ranch & Rim
After breakfast at the Marriott, motorcoach to Boulder Airport, then a one-hour scenic flight to Bar Ten Ranch on the North Rim. Spend the afternoon on horseback, at the skeet range, and hiking canyon-edge trails before a western BBQ and evening entertainment show.
DAY 2
Into the Canyon
Breakfast at the ranch, then the helicopter descends a vertical mile into the Grand Canyon at Whitmore Wash. Your guide team and J-Rig are waiting at the river. Afternoon runs include Kolb and Mile 209 Rapids, first whitewater, first camp, canyon walls rising a thousand feet overhead.
DAY 3
River Time
A full day on the Colorado: Granite Spring, Diamond Creek, and the 230's, the biggest rapids of the trip, with side canyon stops including Travertine Grotto's hidden waterfalls and pools. Long stretches of the river run deep and still between ancient walls. Camp at the waterline under the Grand Canyon sky.
DAY 4
The Return
Final miles of the Colorado, then a mid-stream transfer from the J-Rig to a waiting jet boat carries the group across Lake Mead to Pearce Ferry and a motorcoach for the Las Vegas return. The canyon gives way to open sky on all sides, the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and Hoover Dam come into view on the drive back. Most guests are back at the Marriott by 3:00 PM.
Your Grand Canyon Raft
Purpose-built exclusively by Western River Expeditions, the J-Rig raft redefines how guests experience the Grand Canyon. Its innovative design offers secure, forward-facing seating, exceptional stability in big water, and a smoother, more comfortable ride through legendary rapids. The result is confidence, comfort, and connection, whether charging whitewater or drifting beneath canyon walls. Discover why the J-Rig is unlike any raft on the river and explore the full story behind its design and performance.

Planning Your Travel
Know Before You Go
These insights from the Western River team are candid considerations for this trip. We believe in being transparent so you can choose the best trip for you and your loved ones.
Physical Readiness & Participation
WATCH VIDEOYou do not need prior rafting or camping experience. You should be comfortable walking on uneven ground, getting on and off the J-Rig, setting up your cot, and holding on securely through whitewater.
Life jackets are required on the river. Strong swimming skills are not required, but you should be able to move your arms and legs and follow your guides’ instructions if you enter the water.
If you have a specific health or mobility concern, talk with your physician and call Western River Expeditions before booking so we can help you understand what the trip requires.
Your Night at Bar 10 Ranch
Your first day is spent at Bar 10 Ranch before you enter the canyon. Ranch activities may include horseback riding, skeet shooting, hiking, games, and evening entertainment.
Sleeping options at the ranch include covered wagons, an open-air deck, and bunk rooms. The next morning, a helicopter carries your group from the ranch to the Colorado River at Whitmore Wash.
River Camping, Showers & Bathrooms
The next two nights are spent at riverside camps in the Grand Canyon. Western River provides your cot, sleeping bag with sheets, tent, ground cover, and camp chair. You choose your sleeping spot and set up your cot and, if you want one, your tent.
There are no showers or permanent restrooms on the river. Your guides explain the portable toilet setup and simple ways to wash and stay comfortable in camp. Many guests choose to sleep beneath the stars rather than use a tent.
Heat, Cold Water & Weather
The Lower Grand Canyon is a desert environment. Hot, sunny days are common during summer, while mornings and departures earlier or later in the season can be cooler.
The Colorado River remains cold even when the air is hot. Weather can also change quickly in the canyon, including summer thunderstorms. Sun protection, quick-drying clothing, and following the packing list closely make a noticeable difference.
Rapids & J-Rig Seating
The Lower Canyon combines active whitewater with long stretches of calmer river. Its rapids are generally less intense than major rapids such as Hance and Lava Falls encountered on Western River’s longer 6- and 7-Day trips, but this is still an active whitewater trip.
Before significant rapids, your guides explain what to expect and what you need to do. The J-Rig has three seating areas that offer different levels of splash and exposure, so members of the same group can experience the whitewater differently.
Traveling with the Group
Departures carry up to 28 guests, typically traveling on two J-Rigs. Groups often include families, couples, friends, and solo travelers.
One distinctive part of the 4-Day trip is that everyone spends the first day together at Bar 10 Ranch before reaching the river. By the time you board the rafts the next morning, you have already shared meals and activities with the people you will travel with through the canyon.
Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada
The Las Vegas Marriott is the meeting point for the 4-Day Grand Canyon Rafting & Ranch Trip. From there, Western River coordinates the transportation to Bar 10 Ranch, the helicopter entry to the river, and your return to Las Vegas at the end of the trip.
Meeting location: Las Vegas Marriott, 325 Convention Center Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Parking and baggage storage fees may apply. Check with the hotel for details.
Tip: We suggest staying at least one night before and one night after your trip at the Marriott.
Getting From Las Vegas to Bar 10 Ranch and the River
The group travels together by motorcoach from the Marriott to Boulder City Municipal Airport. From there, a scenic flight carries you to Bar 10 Ranch, where you spend the first afternoon and night.
The following morning, a helicopter descends from the ranch to the Colorado River at Whitmore Wash, river mile 188. Your guides and J-Rigs will be waiting at the river.
Beverages and Luggage
Water and lemonade are provided in unlimited quantities on the rafts and in camp. Western River does not provide beer, liquor, or soda.
Guests arriving on the charter flight from Las Vegas must purchase all beverages before leaving Las Vegas: these items are not available for purchase at Bar 10 Ranch. TSA regulations require that liquor be under 140 proof and stored in the original container. Beverages must be included in the 25 lbs (20 lbs for a duffle bag + 5 lbs for beverages) weight limit per person, or a $15 surcharge applies. Generally, it works out to one half-case (12 cans) per person.
How to Dress for Your Departure
Wear quick-dry clothing. Bring your sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses in your carry-on bag, not your duffel.
Full packing list in the Grand Canyon Packing Guide.
Returning to Las Vegas
On Day 4, you’ll finish the rafting portion of the trip and transfer to a jet boat for the ride to Pearce Ferry. A motorcoach then returns the group to the Las Vegas Marriott, typically around 3:00 PM.
We recommend staying another night in Las Vegas. If you plan to fly home the same evening, schedule your departure no earlier than 7:00 PM to allow adequate travel time.
While in Las Vegas
The Marriott is near the famous Las Vegas Strip but away from the chaos. Taxi services, Uber, and the Monorail are all convenient options for getting around. The Convention Center Monorail Station is a short walk from the Marriott and leads directly to the heart of the Strip (you'll navigate through Bally's Casino before emerging into the open air on The Strip).
Dining: Piero's Italian Cuisine is right next door to the Marriott, a local favorite frequented by Las Vegas insiders and visiting celebrities. It doesn't look like much from the outside, which is part of the appeal.
On The Strip: The Bellagio fountains are a good focal point. The Cosmopolitan, Caesar's Palace, and Paris are all nearby. Any Cirque du Soleil show is worth it, the Bellagio's "O" is a consistent crowd pleaser. Plan your activities carefully if you're getting up early in the morning for the river.

Packing for Your Trip
Packing for your Grand Canyon rafting vacation is a bit different than your standard vacation, but it's fairly simple. Just pack the items from our packing list into a duffel bag, and we'll take care of the rest.
GRAND CANYON 4-DAY RIVER & RANCH TRIP
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the 4-day trip compare to the 3-day grand canyon trip?
Both trips raft the same 92-mile Lower Grand Canyon route, beginning with a helicopter descent to the river at Whitmore Wash and ending with a jet boat ride to Pearce Ferry.
The difference is the first day. The 4-Day trip includes a day and overnight stay at Bar 10 Ranch before you fly by helicopter to the river the following morning. The 3-Day trip skips the overnight ranch experience and reaches the river on Day 1.
Choose the 4-Day trip if Bar 10 Ranch sounds like an important part of the experience. Choose the 3-Day Grand Canyon trip if you want the same Lower Canyon river route in the shortest amount of time.
How do I know if the 4-Day Grand Canyon trip is right for me?
The 4-Day trip is a good fit if you want to combine a Grand Canyon ranch experience with three days rafting and camping in the Lower Canyon.
It is particularly appealing to families with children age 9 and older, first-time rafters, and travelers who want a shorter Grand Canyon trip with several different experiences built into four days: scenic flight, ranch activities, helicopter entry, rafting, camping, and a jet boat exit.
If spending more days on the river and seeing the upper section of Grand Canyon is your priority, compare the 6-Day Grand Canyon trip and 7-Day Grand Canyon trip.
What happens at Bar 10 Ranch?
Your first afternoon and night are spent at Bar 10 Ranch before you enter the Grand Canyon. Activities may include horseback riding, skeet shooting, hiking, games, and evening entertainment.
The next morning, a helicopter carries your group from the ranch to the Colorado River at Whitmore Wash, where your guides and J-Rigs are waiting.
How physically demanding is the 4-Day trip?
No prior rafting or camping experience is required, but this is an active wilderness trip. You should be comfortable walking on uneven ground, getting on and off the raft, helping move personal and camp gear, setting up your cot, and holding on through whitewater.
Life jackets are required. Strong swimming skills are not required, but guests should be able to move their arms and legs and follow guide instructions if they enter the water.
What are the rapids like on the lower Grand Canyon?
The Lower Canyon combines active, splashy whitewater with long stretches of calmer river. The major rapids are generally less intense than rapids such as Hance and Lava Falls encountered on the 6-Day Grand Canyon and 7-Day Grand Canyon trips.
Before significant rapids, your guides explain what to expect and what you need to do. The J-Rig also has three seating areas that offer different levels of splash and excitement.
What is the minimum age for the 4-day trip?
The minimum age for the Grand Canyon 4-day trip is 9.
If you are traveling with children younger than 9, compare other Western River trips with lower minimum ages, including Desolation Canyon, which can accommodate children as young as 5.
What is camping like on the 4-Day trip?
You’ll spend two nights at riverside camps in the Grand Canyon. Western provides a cot, sleeping bag with freshly laundered sheets, tent, ground cover, and camp chair.
When you arrive at camp, everyone helps unload gear, then you choose a sleeping spot and set up your cot and, if you prefer, your tent. Most guests find the setup straightforward after the first night, and guides are available to help.
Many guests choose to sleep under the stars rather than in a tent. Campsites vary from night to night.
Are there shower and bathroom facilities at Bar 10 Ranch and on the river?
Bar 10 Ranch has restrooms and shower facilities. Bring your own towel and toiletries; a limited number of towels may also be available at the ranch.
Once you reach the river, there are no showers or permanent restrooms. Your guides set up a private portable toilet system at camp and explain the simple procedures used during the day. They’ll also show you the best ways to wash and stay comfortable while camping in the canyon.
How much time do we spend on the raft each day?
It varies by day. Day 2 begins on the river after the helicopter descent from Bar 10 Ranch. Day 3 is your longest full day of river travel, and Day 4 includes the final stretch before transferring to a jet boat and heading downstream to your takeout at Pearce Ferry where you'll board a motorcoach for your return to Las Vegas.
You won’t spend every hour sitting on the raft. The trip also includes stops, short hikes, meals, and time in camp, and your guides adjust the pace based on conditions and what the group encounters along the way.
What is a typical day on the colorado river like?
There is no rigid daily schedule on the river. Your guides plan each day around river conditions, weather, available camps, and the places worth exploring along the way.
A typical river day includes stretches of calm water, rapids, stops for lunch, and opportunities to explore side canyons or other points of interest. In the afternoon, your guides select a campsite, everyone unloads personal and camp gear, and you settle in while dinner is prepared.
The rhythm is active but unhurried: you’re moving through the canyon without feeling like you’re racing through an itinerary.
What kind of meals are served on the 4-day trip?
Meals are included throughout the organized trip experience. Bar 10 Ranch prepares your meals during the ranch portion, and once you reach the river your guides prepare fresh breakfasts, lunches, appetizers, dinners, and desserts in camp. Marriott guests will receive a boxed breakfast the morning of departure and a lunch will be provided on your motorcoach return to Las Vegas as well.
Expect considerably more than basic camp food, with varied menus and accommodations for many common dietary needs when arranged in advance. Water and lemonade are provided throughout the river trip; guests may bring permitted canned beverages of their own.
What's included in the 4-day trip price?
The trip includes scheduled transportation from Las Vegas, the scenic flight to Bar 10 Ranch, your ranch stay and included ranch activities, helicopter entry into the Grand Canyon, professional river guides, J-Rig rafting, meals, camping equipment, the jet boat exit, and motorcoach transportation back to Las Vegas.
Your travel to and from Las Vegas, pre- and post-trip hotel nights, alcoholic beverages, guide gratuities, personal items, and optional Bar 10 Ranch activities such as the ATV tour are not included.
Can I drive to Bar 10 Ranch instead of flying?
The 4-Day itinerary is built around group transportation from Las Vegas. Guests travel by motorcoach to Boulder Municipal Airport, take a scenic flight to Bar 10 Ranch, and the following morning fly by helicopter to the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188.
The trip does not return to Bar 10 Ranch. After the river portion, guests transfer to a jet boat for the ride to Pearce Ferry, where a motorcoach meets the group for the return to Las Vegas. For that reason, all guests use the transportation included with the trip.
Can we reserve the 4-day Grand Canyon trip for a private group?
Yes. Select 4-Day departures may be available for private groups, allowing your family, friends, or organization to share the trip together while Western handles the transportation, ranch stay, river logistics, meals, and camping.
Availability depends on the departure date and group size. See available private trip dates.
What happens in case of a medical situation on the river?
Western’s guides are trained in first aid and emergency response and carry first-aid supplies and communication equipment on the river.
If a serious medical situation occurs, the guide team evaluates the circumstances and coordinates the appropriate response with the National Park Service and other emergency resources as needed. Because Grand Canyon trips travel through remote wilderness, evacuation can take time and depends on location, weather, and the nature of the situation.
