Adventure Vacations for Couples

★★★★★ 4.9 OUT OF 2841 REVIEWS

Some of life's best adventures are even better when you share them with someone you love. Imagine rafting through the Grand Canyon, exploring the National Parks of Utah, discovering the wild rivers of Idaho, or staying at riverside lodges in Oregon together. There's something special about experiencing places this remarkable side by side.

And then there are the moments in between. The laughter after a big rapid, a quiet morning with coffee beside the river, or lying together beneath a sky filled with stars. These are the little things couples remember just as fondly as the big adventures.

Life gets busy, and it's easy to put time together on the back burner. A multi-day river trip gives you a chance to leave your usual routines behind, enjoy each other's company, and share a few days when there's nowhere else you need to be.

With experienced river guides handling the meals, equipment, and daily details, you can focus on the experience instead of planning every moment. Celebrate an anniversary, check off a long-held dream, or simply do something wonderful together. With Western River Expeditions, you'll find adventures worth sharing and stories you'll love looking back on.

Disconnect Together

Most of these canyons have no cell service. For a few days, the only person you need to check in with is sitting right beside you.

Nights Under the Stars

Riverside camps, the sound of moving water, and more stars than you knew existed. Prefer a real bed? Some trips have private lodge rooms each night.

Couples Adventure Vacation Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which trip is best for couples?

It depends on the experience you want. For comfort and a private room each night, the Rogue River Lodge-to-Lodge trip is the easy choice.

For the flagship bucket-list trip together, go with the 6-Day Grand Canyon or 7-Day Grand Canyon trip.

Short on time? The 4 Day Cataract Canyon delivers big whitewater and 2-Day Cataract Express can be combined with a hotel stay in Moab, Utah and more adventures together.

  • Can we have private accommodations?

On the Rogue River Lodge-to-Lodge trip, you stay in cozy riverside lodges with private rooms.

On camping trips, tents are provided and couples share a tent, with cots or sleeping pads depending on the river. You can generally find a fairly private place to set up your personal camp.

  • Is it still romantic on a group trip?

Couples tell us yes. You travel with a small, friendly group, but the experience is yours: shared rapids by day, side-canyon hikes just the two of you, quiet evenings by the river, and nights under the stars. You decide how much time you want to spend with the rest of the group vs. just the two of you.

Many guests come to mark an anniversary or milestone, and the guides have been known to make the moment special. Let us know in advance what you're celebrating!

  • Is this a good trip for an anniversary or honeymoon?

A river trip is one of the most memorable ways to mark an anniversary or honeymoon. We regularly host guests celebrating milestones on the river.

One couple marked their 40th anniversary on a Grand Canyon trip, and the guides surprised them with an anniversary cake to share with the group.

  • Do we need any rafting experience?

No. The vast majority of our guests are first-timers. Your guides handle the boats and the rapids, teach you everything you need to know along the way, and there are trips for every comfort level, from gentle stretches to legendary whitewater.

  • How much time will we actually get to ourselves?

Plenty. The days have a natural rhythm of time on the water together, side hikes you can take as a pair, and unstructured evenings in camp. With no phones and no schedule, the trip gives you more uninterrupted time together than most vacations ever do.

  • What is included in the price?

Nearly everything once the trip begins: professional guides, all meals, camping equipment, rafting gear, and in-trip transportation like helicopters, jetboats, and motorcoaches where a trip uses them. It is an all-inclusive, wallet-free vacation, so you can be present instead of tallying costs.

  • Can we book just the two of us, or a private trip?

You can join any scheduled departure as a couple and still have your own experience within the group. If you would prefer an exclusive trip, you can invite other couples to join you and book your own private group trip.
