GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA
Grand Canyon 6-Day Rafting Trip
★★★★★ 4.9 OUT OF 2841 REVIEWS
Many of our guests have stood at the rim and it's mind blowingly beautiful, but it's impossible to get the scale of Grand Canyon when you're standing at the rim. Western River makes it as manageable, as easy, as fabulous as that process can be. It's basically an all inclusive at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. If people have the time to span that six or seven day trip, it's that much more of an experience. The magic that comes out of the canyon walls can't be felt through a coffee table book or a video online. You just have to come and and experience it. From the stars to the rapids to the amazing hikes that we went on. It's been amazing and honestly, I can't imagine a better trip. It's something I think everybody should do at least once. Twice would be better because the first time you're overwhelmed, it's that big of a place.
Raft 188 miles through the Grand Canyon on Western’s signature J-Rig, running 60+ legendary rapids, exploring waterfalls and side canyons, and exiting by helicopter, with no required hike in or out of the canyon.

Western's Signature Grand Canyon Expedition
The 6-Day Grand Canyon trip is Western’s signature expedition, traveling the complete 188-mile route from Lees Ferry to below Lava Falls at Whitmore Helipad. Over six unforgettable days, you’ll run more than 60 rapids, and explore waterfalls and side canyons like Elves Chasm, Deer Creek Falls, Matkatamiba, or Havasu Creek. This is the ultimate Grand Canyon journey. Camp beneath the stars, and exit the canyon by helicopter on day 6. It delivers the full balance of whitewater, exploration, river time, and riverside camping that has defined Western’s Grand Canyon experience for generations.
Best for: Travelers who want the 188-mile Grand Canyon expedition with the widest selection of departure dates. Choose the 7-Day if an additional night in the canyon and more itinerary flexibility for hikes or camp time are especially important to you.
Grand Canyon 6-Day Itinerary
Over six days and five nights, you’ll travel 188 miles through the heart of Grand Canyon, from Lees Ferry to Whitmore Wash Helipad. More than 60 rapids bring the excitement, including many of the canyon’s most celebrated stretches of whitewater, while quieter miles create time to take in the changing rock layers, hidden side canyons, and beauty around every bend.
Six days gives you time to settle into the canyon rather than simply pass through it. Between the rapids, you’ll hike to waterfalls and ancient archaeological sites, share freshly prepared meals, and camp beside the river beneath a sky full of stars. After passing Lava Falls, your journey concludes with an unforgettable helicopter flight from the river to the canyon rim. Each departure unfolds a little differently, but the itinerary below offers a general sense of how your six days may flow.
DAY 1
Into the Canyon
After a transfer to Lees Ferry, House Rock and the Roaring Twenties Rapids set the tone. By evening, you reach your first riverside camp as canyon walls glow and dinner is prepared at sunset.
DAY 2
River Time
After breakfast prepared by your guides, you drift toward Vasey’s lush hanging garden and visit the vast Redwall Cavern, with side-canyon hikes and whitewater shaping the rhythm of the day.
DAY 3
Big Water
With luck, you'll find the water of the Little Colorado River running bright turquoise; then it's off to world famous rapids like Hance, Hermit, and Crystal Rapids.
DAY 4
Hidden Waterfalls
Guided hikes may lead to Elves Chasm or Deer Creek Falls, where cool water and towering canyon walls offer a refreshing pause between stretches of whitewater.
DAY 5
Havasu Canyon
If conditions allow, a hike into Havasu Canyon reveals turquoise pools and travertine terraces unlike anywhere else. Minerals carried by Havasu Creek create its remarkable blue-green color, and your guides know the best places to explore when access and conditions allow.
DAY 6
Lava Falls & Lift Off
Legendary Lava Falls Rapid delivers one final surge of whitewater before the river begins to settle. At the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188, a helicopter carries you from the river to Bar 10 Ranch, where a shower, lunch, and return flight conclude the journey.
Your Grand Canyon Raft
Western River Expeditions designed and built our exclusive J-Rig specifically for the Grand Canyon. Its forward-facing seating provides multiple ways to experience the river, from the wetter, more active front positions to seating farther back from the biggest splashes. Whether running whitewater or traveling calm stretches, the J-Rig provides a stable platform with plenty of room to move around during the day.

Planning Your Travel
Know Before You Go
These insights from the Western River team are candid considerations for this trip. We believe in being transparent so you can choose the best trip for you and your loved ones.
Physical Readiness & Participation
WATCH VIDEOYou don’t need previous rafting experience or exceptional fitness for this trip, but you should be comfortable being active throughout the day. You’ll climb on and off the raft, walk across sand and uneven terrain, carry your personal gear short distances at camp, and hold on securely through rapids.
You should be steady on your feet and able to follow guide instructions. If you have medical or mobility concerns, please consult your doctor and call us before booking.
Hiking and Side Canyon Exploration
Side hikes are an important part of the Grand Canyon experience, but participation is optional. Depending on conditions, stops may include waterfalls, side canyons, cultural sites, and viewpoints. Hikes vary from short walks to more challenging routes over rocks, sand, uneven terrain, or through water.
Your guides explain what each hike involves before you begin so you can decide whether it is right for you. You are welcome to remain near the raft when a particular hike doesn’t feel like a good fit.
For guest safety at some locations you may need to hike a short distance from the river's edge.
Rapids & Swimming Ability
You’ll run more than 60 Grand Canyon rapids during the trip, ranging from smaller waves to major whitewater such as Hance and Lava Falls. Before significant rapids, your guides explain what’s ahead, where and how to hold on, and what they need you to do.
Everyone wears a Coast Guard-approved life jacket while on the river. Strong swimming skills are not required, however, if you unexpectedly enter the water, you should be able to move your arms and legs, help position yourself around obstacles, and follow guide instructions.
Western’s J-Rig also offers several seating areas, so you can choose a wetter, more active position toward the front or sit farther back from the biggest splashes.
Camping & Sleeping
Each afternoon, the rafts pull onto a riverside beach and camp takes shape. You’ll help move personal and camp gear from the boats, choose a sleeping spot, and settle in while your guides prepare dinner.
Western provides a cot, sleeping bag with sheets, tent, and camp chair. Many guests choose to sleep outside beneath the stars, although tents are available. Expect sand, early mornings, changing temperatures, and no cell service or electrical outlets.
You do not need previous camping experience. Most guests learn the camp routine quickly, and guides show you how the equipment works when you arrive.
Bathrooms & Hygiene
A portable toilet is set up in a private location each evening at camp and remains available until the group leaves the following morning. Your guides explain the system clearly at the beginning of the trip.
During the day, guides provide the necessary supplies and instructions if you need to use the bathroom away from camp. There are no showers on the river, so guests use the Colorado River and personal hygiene items to stay clean during the trip.
Heat, Cold Water & Weather
Grand Canyon conditions can change quickly. Summer days can be very hot, mornings may be cool, and the Colorado River remains cold throughout the season. Sun, wind, rain, and getting wet in the rapids are all normal parts of the experience.
Your guides adjust the daily rhythm as conditions change, but preparation matters. Follow the packing list carefully, bring the recommended layers and sun protection, stay hydrated, and expect your clothing to get wet.
Traveling with the Group
Trips typically include up to 28 guests traveling on two J-Rigs, with a mix of couples, families, friends, and solo travelers.
Camp life is shared. Guests eat together, help move gear on and off the rafts, explore side canyons together, and spend several days without phones or everyday distractions competing for attention.
There is still room for quiet time, but many guests say getting to know the people they travel with becomes an unexpected highlight.
Private trips are also available if you have a group of 18 or 28 and you'd rather travel with just the members of your group.
Option 1: Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas is the preferred starting point for most guests on the 6-Day Grand Canyon Expedition. Once you arrive at the Las Vegas Marriott, Western coordinates your transportation to Page, the shuttle to Lees Ferry, and your return to Las Vegas after the trip.
The Las Vegas Marriott Meeting Location
Western River guests may book rooms at the Las Vegas Marriott (325 Convention Center Drive, Las Vegas, NV) at our exclusive 2027 Western River block rate. Please do not call the Las Vegas Marriott. Our discounted rate is only available to guests who use the booking link.
Parking and luggage storage are available through the Marriott. Current rates are listed as you make your online hotel reservation. We recommend booking early, as availability can be limited during peak seasons.
If you are unable to reserve using our online link, contact Kristy, our specialist at the Marriott, directly at 301.380.7030 or direct email: Kristy.Fukuda@marriott.com. Please allow a 72-hour response window for messages. Be sure to mention the Western River Expeditions Block.
All guests meeting in Las Vegas must meet in the Las Vegas Marriott lobby at 4:30 AM for a grab-and-go breakfast before your scheduled departure at 4:45 AM.
2028 Guests- Please note that our 2028 season block will be released in the fall of 2027.

- 4:45 AM - Charter bus departs for Boulder Municipal Airport, approximately 40 minutes away.
Restrooms are available in the Marriott lobby and again at the Boulder airport before boarding.
After a scenic one-hour flight to Page, Arizona, you’ll transfer to a ground shuttle for the drive to Lees Ferry.
Restrooms are available at the Marriott, Boulder Municipal Airport, Page Municipal Airport, and again at Lees Ferry before launch.

Important: Guests age 18 and older must bring a valid photo ID.
How to Dress for Your Departure
Dress ready for the river on departure morning. Wear comfortable layers appropriate for the forecast; detailed clothing and packing recommendations will be provided before your trip.
Pack your river clothing and personal gear in a small, soft-sided duffel clearly labeled with your name. Hard-sided luggage cannot go on the river and may be stored in your vehicle or at your hotel.
At Lees Ferry, your guides will help you transfer your duffel into the waterproof river bag provided by Western River and provide a small rubber daytime bag for access to personal items like sunscreen, rain gear, etc.
Returning to Las Vegas
Your river trip concludes at the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188 on the final morning. From there, you’ll take an included helicopter flight to Bar 10 Ranch, where showers and a light lunch are available.
Once you are back at the Boulder Airport, just head to the front counter to check in for the charter bus that will take you back to the Las Vegas Marriott, the expected arrival time is approximately 3:00 PM Pacific Time
We recommend scheduling departing flights after 7:00 PM or staying an additional night in Las Vegas.

Option 2: Meeting in Page, Arizona
Page, Arizona, is an alternative meeting option for guests who prefer to arrange their own transportation to the area rather than start in Las Vegas. Once you meet Western’s transfer in Page, transportation to Lees Ferry and your return to Page after the expedition are included and coordinated.
If You Are Driving to Page
Plan to arrive in Page at least one day before your trip. On departure morning, meet at 7:30 AM Mountain Standard Time at Wilderness River Shuttle, 199 Kaibab Road, Page, Arizona.
Look for the yellow “Guest Parking” sign and park inside the gated lot along the brown fence parallel to Haul Road. Parking is free. Bring all river gear with you when you board the shuttle.
If you leave luggage or electronics in your vehicle, keep Page’s high-desert heat in mind. We recommend leaving heat-sensitive items at your hotel whenever possible.
If You Are Flying Directly to Page
If you are flying directly into Page, meet at 7:55 AM Mountain Standard Time at Page Municipal Airport on the morning of departure.
Travel from Page to Lees Ferry
Guests meeting in Page will join the transfer to Lees Ferry after the driving and airport meeting groups are collected. The drive to Lees Ferry takes approximately one hour.
Along the way, the group stops at a convenience store where you may purchase canned soda, beer, or other permitted beverages to bring on the trip. Restrooms are available at this stop and again at Lees Ferry before launch.
At Lees Ferry, your guides will help organize your gear and provide a safety orientation before the trip launches mid-morning.
How to Dress for Departure
Dress ready for the river on departure morning. Wear comfortable layers appropriate for the forecast; detailed clothing and packing recommendations will be provided before your trip.
Pack your river clothing and personal gear in a small, soft-sided duffel clearly labeled with your name. Hard-sided luggage cannot go on the river and should remain at your hotel or in your locked vehicle. If leaving belongings in a vehicle, keep Page’s high-desert heat in mind, particularly with electronics and canned beverages.
At Lees Ferry, your guides will help transfer the contents of your duffel into the waterproof river bag provided by Western River.
Returning to Page, Arizona
Your expedition concludes at the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188 on the final morning. From there, you’ll take an included helicopter flight to Bar 10 Ranch, where showers and a light lunch are available.
You’ll then board an included flight back to Page, arriving at approximately 3:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. Check in at the front counter for your shuttle back to the Wilderness parking lot.
If you are flying home from Page that day, we recommend scheduling your departure no earlier than 7:00 PM or staying an additional night before continuing home.

Packing for Your Trip

GRAND CANYON 6-Day Rafting Trip
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if the 6-Day Grand Canyon Rafting Trip is right for me?
This trip is ideal for travelers who want to fully experience the Grand Canyon, not just pass through it. Within 188 miles, you’ll see the canyon change day by day. If you value depth over speed, immersion over checklists, and want the “once-in-a-lifetime” version of the Grand Canyon, this is the trip most guests say they’d choose again if they could only do one.
How physically demanding is this trip?
No rafting experience is required. Most days involve relaxing and holding on through rapids in a seat of your choice on the raft, optional side hikes, swimming, and time in camp. You should be comfortable walking on uneven terrain and spending multiple days outdoors. Learn more about the Physical Requirements of the rafting trip here. Our guides manage the boats, logistics, and pace so you can focus on enjoying the canyon.
How intense are the rapids from Lees Ferry to Lava Falls?
The Grand Canyon features over 60 named rapids, ranging from fun splashy waves to powerful big-water runs like Lava Falls. Western’s custom J-Rig rafts provide stable seating options and excellent visibility, and every trip is led by professionally trained guides with extensive Grand Canyon experience. Safety briefings, top-tier equipment, and conservative decision-making are built into every day on the river.
Do I need to know how to swim?
All guests always wear life jackets while on the river, so you don't have to be an athletic swimmer. However, if you unexpectedly enter the water, you should be able to move your arms and legs, help position yourself around obstacles, and follow guide instructions.
How much time do we spend on the raft each day?
Most days include 4–6 hours on the river, broken up by shore stops, and hikes into side canyons. You won’t sit in one place all day. The rhythm naturally alternates between movement, exploration, and relaxation.
What is a typical day on the Colorado River like?
Mornings begin early to take advantage of cooler hours. After breakfast, you’ll travel downstream through a mix of calm water and rapids, stopping for hikes, waterfalls, historic sites, or swim opportunities. Afternoons end at a new riverside camp where you’ll help unload gear, settle in, and enjoy a freshly prepared dinner under the open sky.
What is camping like in the Grand Canyon?
Camping is one of the highlights of rafting the Grand Canyon. Each night you’ll stay on sandy beaches beneath towering canyon walls and star-filled skies. Western provides comfortable cots, roomy tents, camp chairs, and full meals, so there’s no roughing it. Many guests say camp evenings with shared meals, quiet conversations, and the canyon settling into darkness are the moments they remember most.
What kind of meals are served on this trip?
Meals are prepared fresh by your guides and often surprise first-time guests. Expect hot breakfasts, deli-style lunches with fresh produce, and multi-course dinners that may include steak, fish, pasta, desserts, and more. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice. If you have questions, check with our office staff. Guests frequently say the food far exceeds expectations for a remote canyon setting.
What's included in Grand Canyon 6-day trip price?
This is an all-inclusive rafting vacation. Nearly 188 miles of rafting through the Grand Canyon, professional guides, all meals, rafting equipment, and camping gear (cots, tents, sleeping bag, sheets, chair). The price includes a motorcoach from Page, AZ to Lee's Ferry, a helicopter flight out of the canyon, and return flight to Las Vegas or Page. Once you arrive, there’s no need to manage logistics or keep track of extras. Everything essential is handled for you on the river.
Note that many find it more convenient to add a charter flight from Las Vegas to Page if you prefer. Contact us to add this charter flight.
What is the minimum age and is this trip right for teens?
The minimum age for the 6-day trip is 12. This itinerary includes longer river days and larger rapids, making it best suited for teens who are comfortable with physical activity and adventurous environments. Many families consider this trip a milestone experience and a meaningful shared challenge.
What's the difference between the 6-day and 7-day Grand Canyon trips?
Both trips cover the 188 mile length of the upper Grand Canyon river corridor. The 7-day trip moves at a slightly more relaxed pace, allowing for additional time at camps and side hikes. The 6-day version offers the same core experience with a slightly quicker daily rhythm and perhaps one or two fewer hikes.
Can we book this Grand Canyon trip privately for our group?
Yes. Private departures are available on select dates for families, reunions, and organized groups who want to experience the canyon exclusively together. Many multi-generational families choose this option to create a shared milestone: a week of uninterrupted time inside one of the most awe-inspiring places on earth. Your group travels together, camps together, and builds the kind of memories that will be talked about for decades.
What happens in case of a medical situation on the river?
Our guides are trained in wilderness first aid and rescue response. We carry emergency communication gear and coordinate directly with National Park rangers if an evacuation is needed. Serious emergencies are rare, but detailed safety and response planning backs every launch.
