GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA
Grand Canyon 7-Day Rafting Trip
★★★★★ 4.9 OUT OF 2841 REVIEWS
The Grand Canyon is an experience that many of our guests have been dreaming about for years. It's truly life changing. The seven day Grand Canyon trip with Western River Expeditions covers the same 188 mile route that the six day trip covers, but it gives you one more night in the Grand Canyon. That means one more night to enjoy the stars and just that little extra time to disconnect and be in this magical place. When you get here and you realize everything that they are doing every day for you, the value is unbelievable. This is a whole different experience. I mean, so few people get to come to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and raft and see it from this perspective. And it is... It's like being on another planet. I mean, magnificent. It's... It takes your breath away in many cases. From the bottom, you get to see all the different rock layers and all the amazing waterfalls and oases and side canyons and hikes and history that really makes the Grand Canyon grand.
Spend seven days rafting 188 miles through the Grand Canyon on Western’s exclusive motorized J-Rig, with six nights beside the river, legendary Colorado River whitewater, side-canyon exploration, and a helicopter exit from deep inside the canyon.

Experience Grand Canyon
The 7-Day follows the same 188-mile route as Western’s signature 6-Day expedition, with an extra day and night to settle into canyon life. Depending on river and canyon conditions, that additional time may create opportunities for a more relaxed pace, longer stops, additional exploration in side canyons like
Elves Chasm,
Deer Creek Falls, Matkatamiba, or
Havasu Creek, or more time at camp. Because only a limited number of 7-Day departures are offered, availability is considerably more limited than on the 6-Day.
CANYON ACCESS
Opportunities to visit places such as Redwall Cavern, Elves Chasm, Deer Creek, Matkatamiba Canyon, Havasu Creek, and other river-access locations when conditions allow.
RIVERSIDE COMFORT
Western provides cots, sleeping bags with sheets, tents, and camp chairs so camp remains straightforward even for guests with limited camping experience.
Grand Canyon 7-Day Itinerary
Over seven days, you’ll travel 188 miles down the Colorado River from Lees Ferry to the Whitmore Wash helipad. The route passes through Marble Canyon, the Inner Gorge, major rapids, side canyons, and a changing landscape that becomes deeper and more remote with each day.
No two departures unfold exactly the same way. Water levels, weather, river traffic, camp availability, and side-canyon conditions all influence the daily schedule. The itinerary below is a representative look at how the week may unfold rather than a fixed promise of specific stops on specific days.
DAY 1
Lees Ferry
After meeting in Las Vegas or Page, you’ll travel to Lees Ferry, the launch point for your seven-day journey. Once gear is organized and guides complete the river orientation, the J-Rigs push into the current beneath the rising walls of Marble Canyon.
DAY 2
Ancient Views
As the canyon walls rise, possible stops include places such as Redwall Cavern and historic or cultural sites along the river corridor. Depending on conditions and timing, hikes may lead to elevated viewpoints or archaeological features that reveal how people lived along the Colorado centuries ago.
DAY 3
Into the Inner Gorge
The canyon deepens as the river approaches the Inner Gorge. Near river mile 61, the Little Colorado River joins the Colorado, sometimes displaying its striking blue-green color when conditions are right. Farther downstream, the river enters darker, ancient rock and some of the canyon’s more technical whitewater, including Crystal Rapid.
DAY 4
Hidden Canyons
Midway through the trip, opportunities may include side-canyon exploration at places such as Deer Creek, Matkatamiba Canyon, Elves Chasm, or other river-access destinations. Some stops involve walking through water, scrambling over uneven rock, or short hikes away from the river. Which places you visit depends on conditions, timing, and access that day.
DAY 5
Side Canyon Exploration
When access and conditions allow, Havasu Creek is one of the trip’s most memorable possible stops, with turquoise water and travertine formations below Havasupai lands. As an alternative, we may spend this part of the journey discovering other hidden side canyons or interesting river features.
DAY 6
The Big Drop
Lava Falls, near river mile 180, is one of the Grand Canyon’s best-known rapids and is commonly rated 9–10 on the canyon’s traditional 1–10 scale. Before running major whitewater, guides explain what to expect and how to ride securely on the J-Rig. Below Lava, the river begins to change character as the trip approaches its final night in the canyon.
DAY 7
Liftoff
The final morning carries you toward the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188. From there, an included helicopter flight rises from the river corridor to Bar 10 Ranch, giving you a dramatic aerial perspective on the landscape you’ve spent the week traveling through. After showers and lunch at the ranch, return transportation continues to Las Vegas or Page according to your selected meeting option.
Your Grand Canyon Raft
Western’s 37-foot J-Rig is designed for multi-day Grand Canyon travel, carrying guests, camping gear, food, and supplies through both flat water and major rapids. Three seating areas let guests choose different levels of splash and exposure throughout the day, while the quiet four-stroke motor moves efficiently through long calm stretches between rapids and stops.

Planning Your Travel
Know Before You Go
These insights from the Western River team are candid considerations for this trip. We believe in being transparent so you can choose the best trip for you and your loved ones.
Physical Readiness
Seven days in Grand Canyon means repeated climbing on and off the raft, walking over sand and uneven ground, moving your personal gear at camp, and spending most of a week outdoors. You do not need previous rafting experience or exceptional fitness, but you should be steady on your feet and comfortable being active each day.
The minimum age is 12. If you have a medical condition, recent injury, or mobility concern that could affect your participation, talk with your physician and Western’s team before reserving.
Hiking & Side Canyon Exploration
Side hikes vary considerably. Some stops may involve easy walking through a creek or along a beach; others can require scrambling over rock, stepping through uneven terrain, climbing short sections, or walking uphill.
Participation is optional. Before a hike begins, guides explain what the route involves so you can decide whether it matches your comfort and ability that day. Available hikes vary by river conditions, weather, access, and timing.
Rapids & Swimming Ability
The 188-mile route includes more than 60 Grand Canyon rapids, from smaller wave trains to major runs such as Hance and Lava Falls. Grand Canyon uses a traditional 1–10 rapid-rating scale rather than the more common Class I–VI system.
All guests must wear a life jacket on the river. You do not need to be a super strong swimmer; however, you should be able to use your arms and legs to move yourself through the water and follow guide instructions if you unexpectedly enter the water. Guides brief the group before significant rapids and explain where and how to hold on.
Camping & Sleeping
You’ll spend six nights at riverside camps. Western provides a cot, sleeping bag with sheets, tent, and camp chair, while you choose your sleeping spot and set up your personal sleeping area each evening. Guides help first-time campers learn the routine.
Many guests prefer to sleep outside beneath the stars, although tents are available. Expect sand, early mornings, changing temperatures, and the simple routines that come with living beside the river for a week.
Bathrooms & Hygiene
A portable toilet is set up in a private location at camp each evening and remains available until departure the next morning.
Guides explain the system at the beginning of the trip and provide instructions and supplies for daytime bathroom needs away from camp.
There are no conventional showers on the river. Guests enjoy bathing and cooling off in the Colorado River during the week.
Heat, Cold Water & Weather
Grand Canyon weather changes by season and can vary dramatically during the same trip. Days can be hot, mornings and evenings may be cool, and the Colorado River remains cold even when air temperatures climb. Rain, wind, and sudden temperature changes are all possible.
Follow the packing list carefully and bring the recommended sun protection, rain gear, and layers. Guides adapt the daily schedule to conditions when possible, but guests should arrive prepared to spend the week outdoors in whatever weather the canyon delivers.
Traveling as a Group
A 7-Day departure may include up to 28 guests traveling on two J-Rigs or 18 guests traveling together on one J-Rig. Couples, families, friends, and solo travelers share camps, meals, hikes, and river days together for a full week.
There is room for quiet time, but this is a communal expedition. Guests help move personal and camp gear, eat together, and naturally get to know one another over the course of the trip.
Private 7-Day Grand Canyon trips are available and can be booked just for the members of your group, but you'll want to book early to secure a departure with no one booked on it yet.
Option 1: Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada
Most guests begin their 7-Day expedition in Las Vegas. Once you reach the Las Vegas Marriott, Western coordinates the charter flight to Page, ground transfer to Lees Ferry, and return transportation after the river trip.
The Las Vegas Marriott Meeting Location
Western River guests may book rooms at the Las Vegas Marriott (325 Convention Center Drive, Las Vegas, NV) at our exclusive 2027 Western River block rate. Please do not call the Las Vegas Marriott. Our discounted rate is only available to guests who use the booking link.
Parking and luggage storage are available through the Marriott. Current rates are listed as you make your online hotel reservation. We recommend booking early, as availability can be limited during peak seasons.
If you are unable to reserve using our online link, contact Kristy, our specialist at the Marriott, directly at 301.380.7030 or direct email: Kristy.Fukuda@marriott.com. Please allow a 72-hour response window for messages. Be sure to mention the Western River Expeditions Block.
All guests meeting in Las Vegas must meet in the Las Vegas Marriott lobby at 4:30 AM for a grab-and-go breakfast before your scheduled departure at 4:45 AM.
2028 Guests- Please note that our 2028 season block will be released in the fall of 2027.
Getting From Las Vegas to the River
The charter bus departs the Marriott at approximately 4:45 AM for Boulder Municipal Airport. From there, a scenic charter flight carries the group to Page, Arizona, followed by a ground shuttle to Lees Ferry.
Restrooms are available during the morning travel sequence, and the shuttle makes a convenience-store stop for guests who want to purchase beverages for the river.
At Lees Ferry, your guides will provide a waterproof bag for you to transfer your gear to for the duration of the trip.
Guests age 18 and older should bring a valid photo ID.
How to Dress for Your Departure
Dress ready for the river, you'll be on the water before midday. Pack everything for the trip in one small, soft-sided duffle bag (no hard-sided luggage).
Label your duffle clearly with your name. Any items not coming on the river with you can be stored at the hotel (storage fees may apply).
At Lees Ferry, your guides will help you transfer your duffel into a Western River Expeditions provided waterproof river bag for the duration of the expedition. You will also have a waterproof day bag for access to sunscreen, rain gear, etc.
Returning to Las Vegas
On Day 7, the river portion ends at the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188. An included helicopter flight carries the group to Bar 10 Ranch, where showers and lunch are available before the return flight toward Las Vegas.
A charter bus completes the trip back to the Las Vegas Marriott, with arrival expected at approximately 3:00 PM Pacific Time. Once you are back at the Boulder Airport, just head to the front counter to check in for the charter bus that will take you back to the Las Vegas Marriott, the expected arrival time is approximately 3:00 PM Pacific Time.
Plan departing flights no earlier than 7:00 PM or stay another night in Las Vegas.

Option 2: Meeting in Page, Arizona
Page, Arizona, is an alternative meeting point for guests who prefer to arrange their own transportation to northern Arizona rather than start in Las Vegas. Once you meet Western’s transfer in Page, transportation to Lees Ferry and your return to Page after the expedition are included.
If You Are Driving to Page

Arrive in Page at least one day before departure. On the morning of the trip, meet at 7:30 AM Mountain Standard Time at Wilderness River Shuttle, 199 Kaibab Road, Page, Arizona. Look for the yellow "Guest Parking" sign along the street.
Free guest parking is available inside the gated lot near the brown fence.
Bring all river gear with you when you board the shuttle, and avoid leaving heat-sensitive electronics in your vehicle.
If You Are Flying to Page
Guests flying directly into Page should meet the group at Page Municipal Airport at 7:55 AM Mountain Standard Time. The shuttle bus will arrive at the Municipal Airport after collecting the guests who are driving.
Page to Lees Ferry Transfer
After the driving and airport groups are collected, the shuttle travels approximately one hour to Lees Ferry.
A convenience-store stop allows guests to purchase canned soda, beer, or other drinks. Restrooms are available there and again at the launch site.
At Lees Ferry, guides help organize gear and complete the safety briefing before departure.
How to Dress for Your Departure
Be dressed and ready for the river the morning of your departure. See what to wear on the river.
Returning to Page
On the final morning, the river trip ends at the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188. After the helicopter flight to Bar 10 Ranch, guests can shower and have lunch before an included flight returns them to Page Municipal Airport.
Arrival is expected at approximately 3:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. Check in at the front counter for your shuttle back to the Wilderness parking lot.
If flying home that day, schedule your departure no earlier than 7:00 PM or plan to stay another night.

Packing for Your Trip
A week on the river requires less personal gear than many guests expect. Follow Western’s packing list, bring the recommended clothing and personal items in a soft-sided duffel, and the primary rafting and camping equipment will be provided.
GRAND CANYON 7-DAY RAFTING TRIP
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know the 7-day is the right Grand Canyon trip for me?
The 7-Day trip is best for travelers who want to spend a full week in Grand Canyon and value one additional day and night in the canyon over having the widest selection of departure dates. It travels the same 188-mile route as Western’s 6-Day trip, from Lees Ferry to the Whitmore Wash helipad.
You’ll spend six nights camping beside the river, run major Grand Canyon whitewater, and have opportunities for side-canyon exploration when conditions allow. The minimum age is 12, and guests should be comfortable with an active week outdoors.
What is the difference between the 6-day and 7-day Grand Canyon trips?
Both trips travel the same 188-mile river route from Lees Ferry to the Whitmore Wash helipad and include the same major stretches of whitewater, J-Rig rafts, riverside camping, meals, and helicopter exit.
The 7-Day adds one additional day and night in the canyon, giving the itinerary more flexibility when conditions allow. The 6-Day covers the same mileage in less time and offers a broader selection of departure dates.
How physically demanding is the 7-day grand canyon trip?
This is an active wilderness trip, but previous rafting or camping experience is not required. Guests should be comfortable climbing on and off the raft, walking over sand and uneven ground, carrying personal gear short distances at camp, and holding on securely through rapids.
Optional hikes vary in difficulty and may involve creek walking, uneven rock, uphill sections, or scrambling. Your guides describe each hike before departure so you can decide whether it fits your ability and comfort level.
Learn more about the Physical Requirements of the rafting trip here.
Do I need to know how to swim?
All guests always wear life jackets while on the river, so you don't have to be an athletic swimmer. However, if you unexpectedly enter the water, you should be able to move your arms and legs, help position yourself around obstacles, and follow guide instructions.
How intense are the rapids on this trip?
The 188-mile route includes more than 60 Grand Canyon rapids, including major whitewater such as Hance and Lava Falls. Grand Canyon uses its own traditional 1–10 rapid-rating scale rather than the more familiar Class I–VI system used on many other rivers.
Before significant rapids, guides explain what to expect, where to sit, and how to hold on. The J-Rig also offers multiple seating areas with different levels of exposure to waves and splash.
What is camping like for six nights?
Each evening, the group camps on a riverside beach or other suitable river camp. Western provides a cot, sleeping bag with sheets, tent, and camp chair. You’ll set up your own sleeping area, with help available for first-time campers.
Many guests choose to sleep outside beneath the stars, although tents are available. Expect sand, changing weather, early mornings, and the simple routines of wilderness camping.
What are bathroom and bathing arrangements?
Each evening, guides establish a portable toilet in a private location at camp and explain how the system works. It remains available until the group leaves the following morning.
During the day, guides provide instructions and supplies when bathroom needs arise away from camp. There are no traditional showers on the river, so guests use the Colorado River to bathe.
What kind of meals are served on the 7-day trip?
Guides prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and appetizers throughout the expedition. Meals typically include hot breakfasts, fresh lunch ingredients, hearty dinners, fruit, vegetables, and desserts.
Menus vary by trip and season. Dietary restrictions can often be accommodated with advance notice, so discuss specific needs with Western before departure.
What's included in the 7-day trip price?
The trip includes 188 miles of guided Grand Canyon rafting, meals and snacks on the river, J-Rig equipment, life jackets, waterproof river bags, and standard camping equipment including a cot, sleeping bag with sheets, tent, and camp chair.
For guests who wish to begin in Las Vegas, a charter flight to Page is available (upon request), transfer to Lees Ferry, helicopter flight from the Whitmore Wash helipad to Bar 10 Ranch, and return flight and return shuttle to the Las Vegas Marriott or Page, Az.
Personal travel to the meeting city, lodging before and after the trip, alcoholic beverages, personal items, and guide gratuities are not included.
What is the minimum age for the 7-day grand canyon trip?
The minimum age for the 7-Day Grand Canyon trip is 12, and it is truly one of the top family vacations available.
If you are considering the trip for a younger teen and have questions about physical readiness or fit, call Western before booking.
Do I have to hike into or out of Grand Canyon?
No. The trip begins at Lees Ferry, where you board the J-Rig at river level. On Day 7, the river portion ends at the Whitmore Wash helipad at river mile 188, where a helicopter carries you from the canyon to Bar 10 Ranch.
Side hikes during the trip are optional and vary in length and difficulty.
Can we book the 7-day trip privately for our group?
Yes. Select 7-Day Grand Canyon departures are available for private group charter, meaning your group has the entire departure to yourselves.
This option is popular with corporate retreats, family reunions, multi-generational groups, and friend groups of 18 -28. Contact the Western River team to discuss available dates, group pricing, and any customizations.
What happens in case of a medical situation on the river?
Guides receive emergency-response and first-aid training and carry communication and medical equipment appropriate for remote river travel. If a serious medical situation occurs, guides can contact the appropriate emergency resources and coordinate a response based on the circumstances.
Grand Canyon is a remote wilderness environment, so outside assistance or evacuation may take time. Guests with significant medical concerns should consult their physician and speak with Western before booking.
What is a typical day on the 7-day grand canyon like?
You wake to a hot buffet breakfast prepared by your guides, then load the rafts and push off. The morning typically covers a rapid or two and a side canyon stop. Lunch is served on the bank, fresh meats, cheeses, salads, and wraps. Afternoons continue downstream with more river time, swimming, and whatever the canyon has scheduled for the day. Camp is made on a riverside beach or flat terrain; guides prepare dinner while guests explore, swim, or simply sit and watch the light change on the walls. Evenings are unhurried, starlit, and quiet. Read more about a typical day rafting.
How much time do we spend on the raft each day?
Typically 4–6 hours of moving river time per day, broken up by stops at side canyons, rapids, lunch breaks, and swimming opportunities. The 7-Day's extra day means daily mileage is generally less than the 6-Day, more time at each stop, less distance covered per day. Mornings launch after breakfast; camp is established by late afternoon to allow time for exploration, swimming, and relaxing before dinner.
