From start to finish, this experience proved itself to be more than promised. From the hotel accommodations at The SpringHill Suites, the exploration of Arches by hiking and off-road vehicle to the adventurous fun on the Colorado rafting overnight, there were things to amaze and delight.
The staff is fabulous and the cohesiveness of the staff members never left any doubt that you needn't have a care in the world and you could have just fun. They all deserve just recognition. However, the following were some of the standouts.
Dave, our host for the tour of Arches, was a hoot. Humorous, tongue-in-cheek comments and his saxophone playing at the sites touched and delighted. Patrick, our Hummer driver for the Off-Road Tour was as confident as any driver we have ever seen. He was a master in his handling of the vehicle and our nervous anticipations, treating us with respect but thrilling us with his dash and elan as he scooted his 6000 lbs monster (counting us) along the trails.
Then there's tough-as-nails Meg, the head guide for the Colorado River overnight. Who could have imagined this sprightly and energetic young woman could oar the way she did for as long as she did. She added her own brand of a down-home country sense of humor, readily pointing out interesting sites as she continued her command/rowing duties. She was firm when some of us got a little carried away with our 'River Piracy' shenanigans, making sure we were acting safely. A true leader.
The other amenities are worth mentioning. The Spring Hills Suites were first class and handled any needs that came up. The food provided for all the activities was abundant and healthful and more than enough to fill any hungry stomach in a tasty way. If anyone wanted more, there was Moab, a booming town that appeals to you for the occasional free time getaway.
While truly an experience of a lifetime, here are a few suggestions we believe could make for an even better experience. At the beginning of the trip, a get-together could be arranged at the hotel where members of the group could give short introductions and get to know each other, maybe over hors d'oeuvres? Also, an overview of the trip could be given since there was some confusion over schedules and times.
It would also be nice if more time could be given for more able attendees to hike more of the areas in Arches. Might the tours to Arches could be broken down into two groups? One group could be on one bus for quick visits to many sites while the second group could have longer visits to fewer sites. Just some thoughts.
Finally, thanks go to all the participants and new friends we met. It was truly delightful having this experience with you and one can only hope that our paths will cross again.
So much more could be said, but this adventure was well worth the wait incurred from the pandemic of the last year. If you are considering an adventure of a lifetime, look no further than Western River Expeditions.
