We have done many guided and non guided river rafting trips in our lifetime. We have even done the Grand Canyon twice before this trip. However, we have never been on a boat, like the J-Rig boat that Western specializes in and even invented just for the Grand Canyon. I can’t even tell you the difference. It was so amazing. We got to hit ALL of the white water, which we haven’t been able to do on the other boats we’ve been on in the past on Grand Canyon and the way you sit on the raft, makes it so you can look out and see everything, both sides, and in front of you the whole time. It’s a genius set up!!! The captain (Stephen) and the crew (Josh) are so professional and Stephen has years of experience and he handles these level 10 rapids with ease. The Swamper Josh made the whole trip that much more fun with his charisma and fun personality. He kept us laughing the whole time. We had the best food! The Mills were delicious and we never had to lift a finger to cook a thing or clean it up. They never let us down on what they served and how they served it. We were never hungry between the meals and the snacks that were always available. The last night we even got a big juicy steak! We got to see lots of waterfalls and fun optional hikes to the granaries, waterfalls, swimming holes, natural water slides and beautiful view peaks. We were even able to see petroglyphs and ancient artifacts from the Indians that once called it home. The guides seek out the best camp spots and laid out our trip in such an organized manner. We were able to go with the flow with the group, and not feel too tied down to one persons agenda and what they thought was always supposed to happen. The flexibility was essential, especially since we ended up in some rain storms. My advice For anyone going the first time,buy really good rain gear that repels water & don’t book with anyone other than Western River Expeditions. I’ve been withdrawing from the Grand Canyon since I’ve been home a week now and I’m already organizing our next trip. 5 stars +
