1979 – Grand Canyon Guide Training Trip

I am a former river guide for Western River Expeditons, who worked on the Utah rivers and in Grand Canyon.  The 1979, Western River Expeditions’ Grand Canyon guide training trip was supposed to have a duel purpose: to train new and existing guides, and to take photographs for marketing.  To accomplish the second purpose, Western invited the Brigham Young University Cougarettes (a dance group that performs at athletic events).  The intention was to get alot of photographs of young adults, and a few old ones, having fun while river rafting, tanning, playing on the sandy beaches, etc.  Unfortunately, I don’t recall very many sunny days during that trip.  In fact, I recall being downright cold most of the time.  The trip was held in late April.  I generally like to get wet on trips but not this one.  I believe the only photo in the sun that was taken was this one taken at Havasu.  There, we did have some fun.
