In 2007 I met a friend who told me he’d been on this life-changing trip rafting down the Colorado River. I was in the mood for some life changing, so after hearing tales of Lava and Hance and “riding on the front” I signed up with Western River Expeditions. Thing is, none of my friends were interested, so I just signed up solo. But from the moment I arrived, I was never alone. I met some amazing people that week – an incredible family from Wisconsin, a veteran rafter and her daughter-in-law and her mom, and loads of other people who became quick friends over fire lines and lemonade. I count those six days rafting down the Colorado as some of the best times I’ve ever had – by land or by boat. I have never laughed so hard (or held on so tight) as I did rafting those amazing rapids, hiking side canyons, and lounging around at night. This picture captures a bit of what I loved most about the Grand Canyon trip – from within Redwall Cavern, I was surrounded by some incredible beauty and amazing feats of nature – and by people who were all just trying to take it in. Great trip, great times!
