Western River Rafting Experience in the Grand Canyon

When I watch the river rafting video on YouTube of a Western River rafting experience in the Grand Canyon, I see it as one of the top ten trips of places I have been in this wide world (63 countries now!). Many things contribute to that ranking, but as I age, I realize what an amazing gift you offered the Gunters, Ron, and me on the Colorado River trip through the Grand Canyon. Many of the sites I have seen in the world are created by the hands of man: Great Pyramid at Giza, Ankhor Wat in Cambodia, the Taj Mahal in India, Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plains in the UK, and our National Cathedral in D.C. What one sees in the Grand Canyon is the hand of God creating a natural paradise not found elsewhere. The Canyonlands are amazing in their exceptional structure and beauty.

I have seen the Grand Canyon from the air many times, and it is a vast crack in the ground. One cannot conceive the beauty of the Grand Canyon until one is in it! The power of the Colorado River, when unleashed, has carved a magnificent monument, and the rocks exposed the deeper we went, are, as our guide explained, from a time “In the beginning…”. Our particular trip afforded us a chance to be in a private party of selected friends. The activities on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon are exceptional, but when shared with people we love or know well, make it a truly magical time. The evenings around a campfire or gazing at those stars in a sky not polluted by lights from nearby towns brings one closer to the realization of our exceptional place in the vastness of a larger universe.
