A Life-Long Dream Come True – Rafting The Grand Canyon

At the age of 78, I thought my life-long dream of seeing the Grand Canyon from the Colorado River had passed me by.

Then I found Western River's 6-day trip with helicopter departure from the canyon (no 10 mile uphill hike out), I thought "maybe" I could do it.  Now, don't get me wrong--it would have been easier 20 years ago--but guides Shad, Parker, Joey, and Ben were always right there to extend a helping-hand if I needed it.

Having explored both rims from the top through the years, it was spectacular to view the canyon from the river-upward.  Side trips into some of the slot canyons added another perspective.

The rafting experience on the J-Rig Raft was different from previous river running that I had done on other rivers in smaller boats.  Our driver, Parker, handled the raft with great skill through the whitewater rapids, giving us a thrilling ride.

At the end of each day, a comfortable campsite, ice for a cocktail, followed by a delicious dinner, and sleeping under the stars was the perfect ending to a perfect day.
