Although I had read some books, the Grand Canyon surprised me in an incredible number of ways.
I never would have expected all the side canyons with their crystal clear waterfalls and swimming holes. I had been prepared for heat and there was some of that at certain times. But rain at the beginning of the trip along with the cold water chilled us and caused us to enjoy as much sun as we could find.
There was wildlife in the canyon--deer, a chuck walla, lizards everywhere, and even a beaver. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I was never sure what was going to happen next.
