For The Average “Joe” It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This. – Grand Canyon Rafting
When my husband started talking about going to the Grand Canyon last year I thought we would take a trip with our trailer and camp somewhere close to the canyon. I began to search the internet for camping places and eventually I concluded the best way to see the Grand Canyon would be to get down into it. Well, it didn't take long to find Western River Expeditions with so many options to choose from and a very user friendly website. My husband and I are in our early 60's, not spring chickens with the bodies to prove it but our spirit was willing so we booked this Grand Canyon 4 day trip. We came prepared because we followed the detailed instructions and preparation requests. Western River people know their job and you can have confidence in what they tell you. All of the little fears and questions that arise during the prep time were answered and because we were so prepared we were able to enjoy the trip. I cannot say enough about our guides. These people, Newty, Corey, Wiley, and Gracie are a different breed of folk. They have a love and respect for the outdoors with many interesting stories shared while passing the slow times on the water. All of our guides were confident in their abilities, hard workers, and knowledgeable about the canyon. I never felt fearful, rather I felt supported and confident that this group would provide whatever was needed during the whitewater rafting trip to make it special and wonderful. What meals we enjoyed and what fun to watch the prep and then the cleanup, these guys have it down; the aroma of "Cowboy Coffee" was perfect to wake up to each morning.
I did manage to get hurt on the last day when I lost my balance getting out of the boat and fell. I was pretty banged up but Wiley and others took control of the situation and everyone was accommodating and helpful. As I write this review, my left ankle is in an air cast with torn ligaments on both sides. My knee is not too bad. But looking back I smile and I am so grateful for the kindnesses and concern that my trip mates displayed that night and the next day as we traveled back to Las Vegas. I never felt panicked or fearful because I knew that Wiley would do what was best for me. Not a great way to end my trip but I want everyone to know that if you do have trouble you can have confidence there will be people who know what to do, how to do it, then make it happen.
I will continue to recommended this trip to anyone. The best way to see the Grand Canyon is from the bottom. You get the perspective needed to appreciate this wonder, you make new friends, there's quiet and beauty all around you. Thank you all for a magnificent vacation. I will never forget it.
