Adventurous and Unique Experience – Cataract Canyon Rafting

5

| August 27, 2019

Our Cataract Canyon 4-day Classic rafting trip was everything we hoped for and more. In addition to the high and fast waters which resulted in great rapids (June 2019) the highlight was our guides, Steve and Derek. We couldn't have asked more of our guides, they were skilled, competent, knowledgeable, friendly, superb chefs, had a great sense of humor and personality. They ensured our safety every step of the way.

We met some great people also adventure seeking and adaptable.

The bathroom situation going into this experience was a concern; however, we were pleasantly surprised it was a a non-issue. It was a "loo with a view", private and clean. Recommendations for improvement would be the cots. They were not comfortable at all.

Didn’t Want it to End…Rafting the Grand Canyon

5

| August 27, 2019

I had never known this Grand Canyon rafting trip existed until my wife was listing her "Bucket List' items. Fortunately she knew all about it and also knew that it fills up fast so you need to plan about a year ahead of time.

Rafting the Grand Canyon was a trip of a life time that I won't ever forget. The scenery was simply epic, miles upon miles of sheer beauty. I have been to the rim of the Grand Canyon before, but seeing it like this was something else, and seeing how much of it changes from one bend in the river to the next. The best example of how great this rafting trip was is the fact that about 1/2 the people on our trip were doing it for the 2nd time!

The guides were just excellent, Mark, Dan, Evan, and Grace. They were all super friendly, helpful, and always had a smile, and always had a story to tell about this rapid or that rock or that something! The stories and the info was great. Their culinary ability each morning, noon, and night was also great.

What I didn't expect was to get to know and enjoy the company of the other 12 people on our raft, and the 14 people on the other. It made for a fun time all around and everyone pitched in where needed, having some beers before dinner in our 'gauntlet' of chairs was always a good time!

I can't speak highly enough about this trip, how well run and organized it is, and the caliber of the guides. It was a pleasure experiencing the Grand Canyon through their eyes and with their passion for it's beauty.

We will be going back again. Thank you.

Awesome Grand Canyon Rafting Trip

5

| August 27, 2019

"Awesome" Grand Canyon rafting trip - filled with surprises, wondrous moments, adventure, tranquility and memories...

My high expectations for this trip were exceeded. This bucket list adventure has been on my mind for over 30 years and is finally checked off the list. A few of the highlights I would like to mention:

1. The Western River guides - top notch, the best. Not only for their technical ability and physicality to run a trip like this for 28 people with precision and seeming effortlessness, but also for their willingness to engage each guest on the trip in a unique and meaningful way. Their knowledge and narration of the sights, stories and history from the Grand Canyon was outstanding. Their professionalism and positive attitudes were infectious. Mark, Daniel, Evan and Grace - thank you. And my thanks to your families for sharing you with us!!

2. The Grand Canyon - I have seen the Grand Canyon topside before, but what you see and experience over 188 miles down the middle of the canyon and side hikes blew me away. The vastness and variety in the canyon and its inhabitants just can't be experienced from a single point at the South or North Rims. I was awestruck and surprised on a daily basis.

3. The preparation for the trip - Western River has fine-tuned the communications and packing lists for guests. There should be no surprises if you read everything you are provided!! The conditions in the Grand Canyon can be quite changeable on an hourly basis (even in HOT July) - don't disregard the recommendations for jacket, long sleeves, etc!

4. The bonding experience - can't be underestimated both for you with your loved ones that travel with you on this adventure, and with the strangers you meet on Day 1 who become your friends by Day 6.

Colorado River – Totally Awesome in Every Aspect

5

| August 27, 2019

Our Western River guides, Ronnie, (Veronica) and Newty, (Greg Newton) have got to be the best guides on the Colorado River. Jeff might be a close second, only because he is married to Ronnie. :) They made this experience awesome. They work their butts off making sure we were taken care of. The food they prepared was amazing!! They were always on, even though I would bet they were exhausted. This experience was on our bucket list and so happy we did it.

We highly recommend Western River Expeditions to anyone wanting to experience rafting the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

Really Great Experience Rafting Desolation Canyon

5

| August 26, 2019

Our family had an awesome time rafting Desolation Canyon, we're so glad we did it. The guides were great, the scenery was beautiful, it was fun hanging out and meeting interesting new folks, and the rapids were neither too large nor too small. Lots of wildlife (bighorn sheep, river otters, a bald eagle, and much more). Honestly, I wish I was back on the river right now, it was just so wonderful.

Future travelers should be aware that day 1 is rather long and flat and not representative of the rest of the trip: it's necessary to get downstream to the really fun stuff, which starts on day 2 and in my opinion gets better each day of the trip. It was unusually buggy this time so do bring some spray, and we got rained on a bit so you should pack rain jackets and I recommend rain pants. Quick dry river pants are very useful for keeping the sun off, I found. Temperatures in the tents at night can be quite hot or actually rather cool, so pack layers accordingly. These minor irritants should not deter anyone, it's part of outdoor living and you'll have much more fun than misery overall.

There were lots of kids on our trip, some as young as five. They had no problems at all, and I wouldn't feel nervous about safety for any child in kindergarten or up. One father brought three kids ages 9, 7, and 5 and successfully solo-parented the whole time, so it can be done! If you don't like kids, I recommend looking for a different trip that suits your preferences better. For us, it was fun with our tween and the wide range of ages added to the experience. If you want a really wild river adventure you should look into more extreme rivers, such as the Colorado: Desolation mostly has class 2-3 rapids. Also, you won't be on paddle rafts, so if you want to get a wilder, more river-interactive experience go for the kayaks (which are two-person but also work just fine with one person). For me, this was all just right: I've done more extreme rivers but it was great to just relax and enjoy a more moderate river with some great folks.

Thank you to terrific team leader Abby and to Kelty, Hank, Shelby, and Spencer (dragged out of bed on the day of departure to unexpectedly join us!) and Western River Expeditions for making it a fantastic experience that we'll always remember!

This Grand Canyon rafting trip is a remarkable experience, a fantastic adventure. Having done a three day hike in the Grand Canyon years ago this gave a totally different perspective.

The beauty of the Grand Canyon, the wild ride of the Colorado River, the amazing food, the great guides, the plane ride to start the trip, and the helicopter ride to leave the canyon all made this a wonderful experience that I recommend to one and all.

Big water in the Cataract Canyon this year, 40 ft standing waves and long rapids. This year there was big snow melt which made it an outstanding ride. Our Western River guides were friendly and knowledgeable.

2nd Rafting Trip with Western River

5

| August 26, 2019

In June 2018, I went on the Western River Expedition 7-day Grand Canyon rafting trip with my son. I knew I had to have this experience with my wife, so we signed up for the 7-day trip in June 2019. This trip was as phenomenal as the first. As with my son, my wife and I will be talking about our adventures for the rest of our lives. Rafting through the Grand Canyon for 7 days is a profound, soul-level experience. The canyon constantly unfolds and reveals itself in so many ways: the river currents and rapids, the immense scale of the geological features, the pristine beaches, the elemental physical nature of the experience, being outside under the stars for a week, and on and on.

But it is an extreme environment that requires expert guides with extensive first hand knowledge of the river, topography, as well as superb communications and interpersonal skills. On both trips Western River crews possessed these characteristics in spades. Our boatmen, Evan and Newtie, inspired complete confidence in both me and my wife. Their knowledge of the Grand Canyon's geology, history, and environment was incredible. Their love of, and respect for, the canyon was also evident. They shared all of this with us enthusiastically and happily answered all of my endless questions.

It's rare when a company combines very effective marketing with the substance to more than back it up, especially in a remote environment with so many variables and possibilities. Thank you Even, Newtie, Lou and Micki for giving us the experience of a lifetime.
