We Fell in Love All Over Again! On a Grand Canyon Vacation

While on a trip to the Grand Canyon several years ago, my husband became very interested in the information we found regarding rafting trips in the Grand Canyon.  

Since that time, my husband has been hounding, begging, pleading me to go with him on an expedition.  Not being a very adventurous person, it was about the last thing I wanted to do. But, persistence payed off, and for his 65th birthday gift, I agreed to go with him on the trip he had been longing for - a Grand Canyon rafting trip. I signed up for a 3 day trip, but upon investigating, all the 3 day trips had been booked for the season, but a 6 day adventrue was available. Six days...how would I ever endure that many days of rafting and camping? But after an engaging chat with Sandy at Western River Expeditions offices, I was convinced I could do this (she assured me there was a “princess chair”, for those of us who lacked in desire for outdoor adventures).

Prior to our trip, I had numerous sleepless nights with all kinds of worries. Will I get bumped off the raft, are we too old, who will we be booked with, what about the camping experience?

Well, we have just returned home from our trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, and I cannot find enough words to describe the wonderful time we had. From the very beginning, our guides Ronnie and Jeff made us feel comfortable, confident and prepared for the trip. The river and the whitewater rapids were exhilarating, I even rode the pontoons up front by the second day!

We will never forget the friends we met on our trip. The services provided us by the guides was exemplary, the gourmet meals beyond delicious! We even had Bananas Foster served over ice cream on Day 4! The entire trip was amazing. Being disconnected from the world for 6 days was very liberating. I have to agree with others before us who called it a “trip of a lifetime!” I think I would have to say, my husband and I fell in love all over again, not only with each other, but with the beauty of our world, specifically the Grand Canyon!
