Western’s First Grand Canyon for the 2011 Season

My wife and I just completed the Western River Grand Canyon 7-day whitewater rafting trip on the Colorado River.  We were on the first launch of the 2011 season.  We read all the information on the website and the materials that were sent and had no problems at all.   Western River provided all the information we needed to be prepared.

I would suggest taking the gloves you use for the rafting portion to protect hands from the rocks when hiking.  You often need to use your hands as you climb.  The packing list was right on. We used the cold weather gear in the snow on the South Rim.

Mark and Craig “Lucky” assisted by Beak were great as our Colorado River guides.  They made the adventure a joy.  They cheerfully gave us great advice/directions plus they were super cooks.  We hated to leave them.

The raft trip was certainly a life time experience. It gave a more intimate view of the Grand Canyon than the one I had from the South Rim [after the trip]. The helicopter/plane ride just added to the experience.
