The Main Salmon is such a special stretch of river. You're running 81 miles straight through the heart of one of the largest wilderness areas in the United States. Floating the river is really the only way to truly experience the beauty and grandeur of this completely wild wilderness. You're in this huge canyon, hot springs tucked in... there's so many side streams and big sandy beaches to play on, which is so rare.
It's the true West with the rugged canyons and the ponderosa pines... some really big rapids, and fun rapids! It's so fun. There's something for everybody it's just I think a great river trip if it's your first time or if it's your 30th time down the river going through the Rapids is so exhilarating I love it if you come in June you're going to get big water big waves it's fast it's exciting as the season goes on it gets lower and lower and it's a little easier to manage um it's great for those who maybe aren't as comfortable with white water there's lots of calm sections as well um so people can try out different boats and they can really get comfortable with the river I like the gear boat since you just chill and eat snacks if you want a little more action we have paddle boats and then for those who even want to get crazier we have these little two person inflatable kayaks we are in and out of the boats all day swimming because it's just such a nice temperature I love the water and I love being near it and on it and in it we haven't just rafted one day we went for a hike we played volleyball we'll stop for cliff jumping we'll stop to do a paddle slide which is really
fun one of my favorite things about the river is is the hot springs ooh the hot springs were so warm it was on the mountain side and um we got to candy and soda in there
what once you get to Camp you can relax I like the unstructured time to sit by the river and just absorb it it's been a really great camping experience I have really enjoyed how much I've been taken care of it's the most luxurious I have felt camping and I would rather be here than any five-star hotel the guides are doing the hard work and we're here to vacation and re relax and and enjoy it and it made a world of difference the stars are insane zero light pollution it's unlike anything I've ever seen the beauty of the stars is awe inspiring we saw quite a few bald eagles and golden eagles mountain sheep one guy I caught like this giant fish as we go down the river there's a few really cool historic spots that we stop at there's a lot of great characters that lived on this River we get to see see a little piece of that as we Flow
by one of the coolest things that as a river guide you get see is the impact that rafting for 5 days without a cell phone without outside communication can do for people when I come out on the river it's taking a step away from the normal world and then figure out what's important I think anytime you take people out into natural settings there's a certain slowing down of the mind and there's a certain connection that's built you're going through adventures together you're going through challenges together you're experiencing the excitement of the river really brings you together and we don't get a chance to hang out and just play I've seen parents cry they're like I haven't hung out with my teenager in so long and we finally got to connect on this trip so for me that's so awesome to see and just see these kids just become playful again come on this is one of the reasons I came on this trip to be able to spend as much quality time with them as I can we've been together more than any other vacation that I've have ever been on and it's been really special I'll never forget it and I'm so
thankful I have three teenage kids and finding the perfect vacation is almost impossible it wasn't just rafting it was rafting it was hiking it was fishing it was jumping off rocks it was going in Hot Springs and that made everyone happy and I'm so pleased that I chose this River
What is it like to spend 5 days rafting on the Main Salmon River? It's even better than this video makes it look!
