What's on your bucket list of trips
This is an idea that my dad and I came up with. We did a little bit of research and found Western River and we’re excited. We’ve spent a lot of time on the top-side of the canyon looking down. So it was kind of exciting to have an opportunity to go see it from the bottom up. It was a completely different look and feel than, than what we envisioned.
As a twenty year scoutmaster we had not camped in probably 35 years. I thought what a great experience it would be to have my oldest son, my oldest scout, come out again. And it has been fabulous.
The Bar 10 Ranch was a great way to kick that trip off. It has been a fantastic experience with the working cattle ranch, really wonderful hospitality. From the ATV ride at the Bar 10 to the Rim, to the horseback tour of the neighborhood there it was a wonderful time. It was also a lot of fun to spend the night in a covered wagon. Great way to kick it off. For me the highlight of the trip had to have been running the rapids yesterday next to my dad. Cold water but exhilarating without a doubt.
If I had a bucket list, this would be definitely one of the top ones. You really come back to nature. You don’t know what’s around each bend. This was just a very relaxing time. I believe, that’s the best soul thing you can build, is just to really relax.
We’re blessed in Nebraska to have a lot of great stars, not a lot of light pollution, but to lay on that cot last night and to see that canopy of stars was pretty amazing.
The most meaningful part of the trip was just the fact that I got to do something with my son again one-on-one. In this day and age it’s amazing that you can find any time. And you have to do it here. No cell phones, no TV, just the perfect time.
Being in the canyon and soaking up the scenery and the camaraderie is a chance to recharge the batteries. A crazy schedule like we all have, home and work, to step out of that and not have any outside distractions, what a wonderful escape for a few days!
