Cataract Canyon Video Transcript
I’ve heard about Cataract Canyon. I’ve seen pictures. The Ansel Adams shots, that kind of stuff, but never experienced it before. So this is my first exposure and it’s mind blowing. It’s pure exhilaration. It’s a fantastic feeling, all you want to do is go again. Can you turn it around and go back through again? Because I want to do it again.
There just isn’t anything like getting on the water. Going through those rapids is better than any ride any roller coaster in the world. I love it. I think everyone needs to go on the river at least once. The peace and serenity and the thrills and excitement, you just can’t believe it. It’s fantastic.
Cataract Canyon, for me as a guide, is a special place. Especially here running high speed motor boats. I call it the Corvette of the river. It sounds like quite a large boat but in fact it's going to be quite small compared to the rapids we might see.
You have a lot of force at the back of the boat with 90 horse power. You get to really experience climbing up waves and dropping off the back side of them. When you get 10, 15, 20 foot waves it really give a feel for the power of the river.
Cataract Canyon is another one of those trips that has everything. You start out with some mellow water, you're hanging out and having a good time and you get to know everybody. Then the rapids come, and when they start they start and they don't end for twelve miles. You’ve got back to back to back whitewater. At the beginning, in the Spring, it's the biggest whitewater in North America; huge crashing waves!
Cataract Canyon big water is very, very, very exciting. Like nothing else you will probably experience anywhere.
What makes Cataract Canyon different than any other trip is that it is a big experience. And not just referring to the big boats that we will bring or the big motors that we'll have but it is a big time experience because it is a multi-day trip. It makes this an experience that you honestly feel like you are John Wesley Powell or that you are one of the early explorers. You're here with your family and your crew and we're going to experience this together.
If you’ve never been rafting, you have to try it. There’s just no doubt about it. You get back to a simpler way of life. And in my opinion, a better way of life. Where you’ve got some time to think, you’ve got some time to relax, you’ve got some time for excitement, you’ve got some time for some good food.
If you haven’t woken up next to a river in a morning when it’s cool and it’s calm, and gotten on the boat and nature is waking up, I don’t want to sound too hippy, but it is really a special, special event that you’ve got to experience.
