My good friend called out of the blue the other week. He said, "I just got a call from Western River Expeditions and they said they got a cancellation on this trip through the Cataract Canyon, are you in?" I'm like, "well, when's the river trip?" He responded, "It's like in a week and a half." So I'm like give me a second. I talked to my wife and she goes, "Oh, there's no way you can't go. You've got to go."
I've heard about Cataract Canyon. I've seen pictures. The Ansel Adams shots, that kind of stuff, but never experienced it before. So this is my first exposure to Cataract Canyon and it's mind-blowing. The rapids, as you're approaching, you can't see the swells and the drops all you see is this froth coming up. You're like, "well, that isn't so bad." And suddenly you're on the edge of this thing looking down this hole, and you're going, "THIS IS HUGE!"
It's pure exhilaration. It's a fantastic feeling, all you want to do is go again. Can you turn it around and go back through again? Because I want to do it again. Cataract Canyon is awesome. I'd love to, and I will bring my wife down here and my kids and I know that they'll be blown away. They'd love it. So I want to bring my family back to the canyon for sure and have them experience what I've experienced here.
You can't really put it into words. It just gives you a feeling. I am at peace. It feels right.
I'll never forget it.
