The canyon is named for a Hualapai man who lived here during the early 1900s. Harry Aleson (1899-1972), a man with a long list of Grand Canyon adventures, also lived here for a time in a tent camp and cave he called “MY HOME, ARIZONA”.
The upper Grand Canyon, as traveled by Western's 6 or 7 day expedition begins at Lees Ferry (mile 0) and finishes at Whitmore Wash (mile 188)
