Mile 280 - Pearce Ferry

Jacob Hamblin is credited with identifying this as a potential ferry site in 1862. Harrison Pearce, like John D. Lee, was a participant in the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857. Pearce was sent to operate the ferry site by Mormon Church leader Brigham Young in 1876. The ferry operated until 1883. Pearce Ferry is currently the furthest downstream take-out point for Grand Canyon river trips.
