Mile 148 - Matkatamiba Canyon

Matkatamiba is a Havasupai family name, many river runners call this narrow limestone canyon “Matkat” for short. A walk up the canyon often requires chimney climbing techniques in order to reach a resting area above the limestone narrows. A “goat trail” also leads to the resting area for those who want to avoid the narrows entirely.
