The trip was not only a way to go down the Colorado River in its Grand Canyon, but a way to live with the canyon as it transforms itself throughout the day. Before or after the excitement of the rapids, there was the quiet pleasure of watching the sunshine climb down to the river in the morning and the shadows ascend the walls in the evening. Here evening is coming to the mouth of Nankoweap creek.
