Blacktail Canyon

Mile 120 - Blacktail Canyon

The name Blacktail comes from the mule deer that inhabit the high plateau to the north of the canyon. Mule deer are large deer with big ears and mostly white or tan tails, however their tails are also black at the tips. Blacktail Canyon is a magnificent and unique side canyon which seems to instill a reverence in all who visit. The canyon is a narrow slot, less than a mile long, composed mostly of overhanging Tapeats Sandstone. The canyon can be a very relaxing place; a wonderful place for music, reflection, and deep-thought.
