Mile 132 - Stone Creek

A short and easy stroll up Stone Creek leads to a picturesque falls. The creek above the falls receives copious amounts of sunlight, which warms the water to a comfortable temperature. Because of it’s proximity to the river, it’s beauty, and it’s water temperature; this creek is often a favorite for many river runners.

Julius Stone organized the first “pleasure trip” through Grand Canyon in 1909. Nathaniel Galloway, an accomplished outdoorsman who had run the canyon previously, led the ‘09 trip. The canyon directly upstream from Stone Creek bears Galloway’s name. Seymour Dubendorff, also a member of the same trip, capsized his boat in the adjacent rapid which now bears his name.
