My daughter is home from her first year at the university. We wanted to plan a vacation. I wanted to do something a little unusual. We are both, kind of, nice hotel people and we enjoy being pampered. But I wanted to do something that was a little active. So, I wanted something that would be memorable and have people around us and do something outdoors-oriented. So we chose to go whitewater rafting, now I've been whitewater rafting several day trips out here on various trips that I've been on and I've always enjoyed it so we decided that we would try camping. Although we might do a spa treatment on the way home if we can book it. She actually wanted to do a two-day but we ended up doing the four-day version and see what it's like to camp out and go down the river and do the rapids all at the same time.
I googled a number of places and made various phone calls and I don't remember all the places but Western ended up having a very friendly staff. I spoke to a number of different people there and what I got was consistency all the time. First, we had wonderful weather so that in itself was a wonderful part of the experience.
Regardless of how old one gets you still have to have those family vacations. It's been a lovely time. The varied group ended up actually being a nice venue. Initially, we had planned on going to the Grand Canyon. While the Grand Canyon is beautiful we only wanted a two or three-day trip and we wouldn't have had much rapids. We needed to go on the six days for that and we didn't have the time for that so they recommended that we do this trip. I spent a good amount of time talking with them about that and, you know, at some point, we might go back to the Grand Canyon. But this has been really great, it really has. The food has been better than I thought, much better than I thought. All the meals were different and healthy.
They've really done lovely. What I've been most impressed with is their ability to mingle. While they're busy and they get their stuff done usually one will try to come and sit with people at various times and try to incorporate themselves with the group. And one-on-one so they get to know you a little bit better and vice versa. So there's a comfort level so that has been very nice.
It was a good decision I made to take my daughter and me on a whitewater rafting trip.
