Mile 88 - Bright Angel Suspension Bridge
This bridge was built in the 1960s. A pipe is attached to the bridge which hauls water from Roaring Springs on the north side of the river and carries it all the way to the top of the canyon on the south side. The water from Roaring Springs is the main source for the hotels, shops, park service structures and other buildings on the rim. This bridge is often referred to as the “Silver Bridge” by river runners. From Phantom Ranch, hikers can reach the South Rim by crossing the Silver Bridge and following the trail for 8 miles to the top.
