My name is Libby Jensen, I’ve been guiding for Western for a while and I love it out here. If you are a mom or a dad and you are trying to figure out a cool family vacation for your family, come down Desolation Canyon. It is awesome! It is a great family trip. You are out here in Desolation for about 4 or days depending on the season. It is so fun because it’s like you are in the wild west. It’s really like you are here in the time of Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch.
Every bend is a new sight, a new adventure. You are surrounded by this beauty all the time, all day long. It’s a really unique experience out here because you’ll have kids that are about four years old and you’ll have people who are about 75 years old and everyone loves it. Everyone thinks it’s great. You’ll have people who are scared of rapids or who are scared of living outdoors that end up loving the rapids. Like this morning I had a girl, Emma, and she was terrified of the water. She was afraid of getting in rapids and by the end of today she is just having a blast. She put her hands up and she was like, “I’m queen of the world!”
So it’s amazing to see that. You are camping when you come down Desolation Canyon, it is an outdoor experience. You might catch a glimpse of a bear or something. Families just bond. The experiences that you go through, the fun times you have, the stories you have will last a lifetime.
The stars that you see, you see the Milky Way, you see all the galaxies, it’s amazing. And sometimes we’ll have the moon come out and it’s almost like a flashlight. It’s like you can make shadow puppets with the moon. At night time, you get to sleep on your cot, look up at the stars, listen to guitar music, Desolation is fantastic!
Day and night the scenery is unbeatable. The Western Way is the best way! My name is Libby, I am studying nursing and I am a Western River Expedition guide.
