Best Adventure Ever
This was our second 6-day Grand Canyon trip with Western River. Our last was 13 years ago with my husband and me along with our daughter and son-in-law. As soon as our grandson was born we said we had to do it again once he was old enough. Alex turned 12 last month and our trip started August 2nd. One of the best parts of our trip was that our lead guide, Craig Lutke, was the same as our previous trip. The only thing missing was our Swamper from our last trip, but Amber (Craig’s wife) was at home taking care of their son. Kurt was our Swamper this time and he was absolutely incredible. He had us laughing all the time and was also very knowledgeable about geology and folk lore.
Kurt made every rapid seem like a grand adventure and proved to be a hero when he managed to grab my son-in-law by his life jacket before he flew off the raft going through Hermit. What excitement!!
The guides on the other raft, Corey and Tom, were also amazing and our whole group became like family by the end of the trip. Seeing all of the excitement on my grandson’s face throughout the whole trip was priceless. He already wants to do it again - might make a great graduation present. We would like to try the 7 day trip with more hiking next time (hopefully during a cooler and less muddy month). With a bit of luck Craig and Kurt will still be around in 5 or 6 years. We continue to recommend this trip to friends, co-workers, and anyone else that will listen.
