Deso ROCKS and so does WRE
Oh, Desolation Canyon how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…blueberry pancakes stacked high by the side of the river rushing by; cliffs higher than the Grand Canyon in colors I’ve never seen; seeing not one…but two rock slides; short hikes to outlaw hideouts, petroglyphs, and abandoned ranches; competitive (a little) volleyball in the pouring rain, getting up in the middle of the night to photograph the stars, toga parties (“no sheets, no eats”); candlemaking, and endless bracelet making; new card games and fast friends; naps for no apparent reason; hors d’oeuvres AND dessert every night; geology and history lessons; fishing with meatballs between our toes (it really works); swimming and kayaking in the rapids; watching my kids grow up a little bit more this week; the non-talent talent show; pilates on the beach; rootbeer floats in 100 degrees; campsites with abundant sand and shade; and “smiling”. Our guides Sarah, Max and Mikell were so well organized it looked effortless and it made it easy to truly relax as a family. They said Desolation Canyon is their favorite trip – even over the Grand Canyon - and now we know why. While we ran into short stints of rain 3 of our 5 days, it couldn’t dampen our spirits or the experience (everything really does dry quick out there!). I can’t wait to return to the Green River.
